I wouldn't want the general public wandering around on my property in these dry conditions either. Can't blame landowners for protecting their property. We need steady rain or else I can see the whole forestry shut down soon.

You will be lucky to get access anywhere in southern Alberta this year if it stays hot and dry. There is going to be a lot of disappointed hunters. Wait 10 yrs. for a tag and it may be for nothing.

It's brutally dry in the east central areas too. Provost south to the US border. I'm hearing talk of limiting access due to the fire hazard. Lease access can be denied in years like this with the crowns involvement. With the fire bans we have right now that may happen.

Hope for rain!

Yup, I have been talking with a few ranchers in the South and they all said they have talked to AEP about not allowing any access for hunting SEPT-OCT if the dry conditions keep up. Hopefully wont affect my draw for November.

Already harvesting crops right now ...even the canola

Can't wait until the cool month of November to hunt prairie elk and deer.

And they'd ride around on their quads enforcing it?

The reports are serious enough to make me wonder if I should be bringing my black powder shotguns down there in September and October !!

I would imagine if it stays this dry the Suffield hunt will be postponed.

Ya it's dry. I guess I'm fortunate to have a family member who owns land. He's fine with Archery season, which is great. Especially since I just saw 9 bucks and atleast 3 where monsters coming out of this shallow coulee I got a tree stand in over a watering hole.
But it is real dry out there. Had a lil rain last week, but we need a good steady week long down pour.

Eastern Irrigation District(EID)has an ad in the Brooks newspaper threatening to close do n access and pleading with people to use caution right now. One idiot smoker(not saying all smokers) will shut it down for all. Please be careful

Neighbor has some land east of Valleyview. Last years crop is still in the field and it's too wet to plough a fireguard so they can burn it.

Pretty lame response really. The farmers are protecting their herds and income even if they use quads to do it. You on the other hand, would only be there to harvest a single animal to satisfy your hobby. So yeah, they take in salt blocks with quads, and ride fences and check herd health with horses. Got a problem with that? Maybe stick to your 30' x 100' lot in the city.

I think Deer Hunter meant the gestapo would ride around on quads making sure no one was in the forest reserve (400s).

Regardless of what he meant, let's home for rain in south and SE Alberta.

Maybe they should do it like the good old days. How did the salt blocks get hauled in before the quad.

Someone has their cowboy hat on too tight.
It's dry, we don't need anymore hot air.

Ok, my hat is on too tight, and I'm full of hot air. You're right and I'm wrong. Mods, please delete my posts as I have no wishes to argue nor discuss any further.
