Default Fly Fishing NSR - Success!

Hey Everyone,

I managed to get out fishing for the day on Saturday. I started at Muir Lake, and fished for about 20 minutes in my Father In Law's Belly Boat... Until I found out it had a leak, and I decided to turn back. Fished off the dock for about ten minutes until a family showed up, consumed the dock, and began using minnows as bait. I took a few pics, left, and gave RAP a call, but never heard anything back that day.

I then headed down to the NSR around 1030, and went to Cst Chelsea Robinson Park. I did a short walk, and found a nice run where I figured there might be fish. Granted I'm still new to the fly game, I tied a few different hooks on, and then threw on a pink indicator. I casted into some dead water behind me, and had three topwater strikes on the same retrieve... HOLY ****, THERE'S ACTUALLY FISH WHERE I AM!

I took that as a hint that I should tie on something pink... made sense to me, and it worked! I landed my first ever goldeye, and my first fish on the NSR. I ended up catching 4 more goldeye that day, and a small walleye, all in the same spot. Felt like a successful day to me!!

Nice work. Goldeye are really fun to catch. I live just a short distance from the Red Deer river and I catch lots of goldeye there on the fly. Try using a grasshopper pattern and give it a few twitches in the water. They go crazy for that as well.

Nice! Goldeye on the NSR are super fun. I've spent many summer hours casting flies for them as well.

Nice. Pretty great feeling when you get to drown the skunk

That walleye looks like he met a big pike, and his fin spikes saved him

Yeah, he had a few marks all over his back. I assumed it was a pike attack, rather than a prop injury.
