Default Cooking Sheep Meat

Finally got a Bighorn and now I could use some advise on how to cook it. Looks like some eating. Any recipes would be greatly apprecated. Thanks

Boil a medium roast approx. 6 hours until it is just tough and rubbery, cut into pieces and feed a little at a time to the dog, mixed with his favourite chow.

It always surprises me to hear guys say that sheep meat is bad. As far as I'm concerned, it's the best of all of them, with the possible exception being calf moose. Cook it just like you would cook deer, elk or any other wild game.

I got some backstrap meat from my neighbour in return for showing him how to cut up a back leg. Just BBQ-ed it briefly like good steak... and it was gorgeous!

obviously from someone who has either never shot a bighorn, or shot one and didn't know how to handle it afterwards, some of the best big game I've eaten, and prefer it over Moose and comparable, but a bit better than Elk...

I've killed 7 of them myself and only one was a bad one that I could not eat. All the rest were so good and was just as good as elk or beef. Ribs are my favorite cooked on the open fire the day I get it. WOW.

took a Stone's Sheep once;deeeliscious!Best game meat I've ever eaten!!!
Our marinade was:cube meat into 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" squares after removing all blue skin(keep fat on).throw meat into 5gal pail .add milk .add at least a couple onions cubed.add some soyasauce(not too much to make the milk dark)black pepper and salt.some guys add a few eggs .mix it all up.and mix again if marinading a few days.skewer it onto metal skewers and roast over coals.sprinkle with a mix of salt and black pepper.sprinkle very liberaly with cayenne pepper.Old russian shashlik recipe or shishkabob.
p.s. remove drywall mud from pail and wash before dumping in meat!!

Buy one of them peppercorn sauces at the store.

Roast it just like it is beef.....pull it out @ 150's....not 151 or 153!!

Let it rest on the counter....slice it up and cover with the sauce.

Works for Dall....not sure about BH

Ive eaten Bighorn from 2 provinces and 3 states, dall from the Yukon and NWT and stones from BC and the Yukon and have never had tough sheep meat. Like others have said its the best wild game ive eaten and my family lives on all types of wild game.

Sheep meat is great, bbq or roast it just like moose or elk and do not overcook.

Disclaimer; From my experience a rutty ram, mid to end of November is not the most palatable..
