Hunt test success, now looking for help in upcoming season
Hey everyone, this weekend my chocolate lab passed her first hunt test and I'm looking to meet up with some locals (Edmonton area) this upcoming season. I don't have any knowledge or background to bird hunting. I'm looking for someone who would let us tag along so I can get her used to the field, and running single retrieves. Also I'd like to learn myself along the way on how to lay out a spread and what it take have a successful hunt. Anyways here is a picture of Daphne showing off her ribbon. Have a good day everyone and look forward to talking to a few of you.

you should be very proud, lots of hard work by the both of you. Been a pleasure seeing you both progress!
Daphne is an awesome dog. Great opportunity for those bird hunters who do not have a dog and want to experience of great work let alone allot less work for you LOL. She is a young pup with tons of talent, you have many many great years ahead of you. I hope you continue to stay the course bud. Im sure I can contribute and get you both out this fall with a little duck shooting, always enjoy sherpas
again congrats, awesome day and she did great work!

Thank you again for all the time you spent helping us out! Don't worry I'm sure you will be seeing more of us soon we still have lots to learn. Wouldn't mind getting a step ahead and doing the beginning stages of senior.

Awesome looking pup, congrats on the ribbon. I have an 8 month old that will be doing her first hunting season with me this year. I've looked into doing the hunt tests in the spring next year, as I looked up what the pups have to do to pass each level so it gives me an idea to work towards anyway. What level did your pup pass? I'm down in Cochrane, otherwise I'd tag along to hunt!

Congratulations on your hunt status
Its a lot of hard work and dedication
but that first ribbon makes it all worth it
I wish I lived closer I would say cmon out every chance you could get out this fall
but a 12 hr drive is a tad to far
I'll ask my grandson if he would be interested in meeting up with you
he is young but knows his stuff when it comes to setting up
a tad shy on getting out and asking permission
but he's as safe a hunter and as observant as any one I've ever hunted with
he lives in Stonyplain, AB
he has his own layout blinds and some older but perfectly useable decoys
he got from a really nice guy on this forum
if that would help you out
let me know,
and by the way beautiful pup you have there

thats awesome! I'm planning to do that after the hunt season! It is addicting, although I'm finding frustration in some of the training community based on how they treat some trainers for their preference with or without collar conditioning, force fetching, force to pile and labeling a dog based on that.
However, time out in the field doing training with the pup is enjoyable for me and i'm so excited to hunt her

one doesn't have to always do what the other person does to get the same results take the advice from everyone and make yer own opinion, do what works best for you and yer pup
if you only ever want to hunt with your dog
but train with the hunt test crowd that's awesome
because you will have one heck of a hunting dowg

Did you do all the training yourself, or have her trained?
I have a nine month old I have been training myself with the help of some books, but if there is a place near Edmonton where I can take him and both of us are trained, instead of me sending him there, I would prefer that.

That is a gorgeous dog. Congrats on your success. You cant fake it with a dog.
Good luck with any outings this year.

Why not do both upland a water fowl. You can do grouse in the black foot grazing reserve. Nice and close and all you need is the discharge permit. Lots of land to hunt and you can do water fowl their too.
Gordon
P.'s. That is one good looking dog. It make me miss mine rest in peace Rily. He passed away back in June at 8 yrs old.

I'll get into upland in the future, first time training a dog so taking it one step at a time at this point. And sorry for your loss!
