Default 4 wt reel

Anyone have a suggestion on a reel with cheaper spools? Have a dedicated floating line rod, now would like to have a sinking/ intermediate as well. Someone recommended something cheap off amazon, yet I'm still a bit scared of that!

I use Amundson Trend reels for all my rods now. They work well, even in the salt water and the spools are pretty easy to get at sales in the fly shops nor do they cost that much at regular price either.

I'm sure the drag is probably smoother on the really expensive reels but I've pulled in a lot of fish and it's never been the reel that has cost me from landing any fish.

Plus they are a Canadian outfit out of BC so supporting local as well!

Consider a cartridge system.

Snowbee & Grey's, probably a few other manufactures. Not sure they make them specifically for a 4 wt though...

Max catch, it's surprisingly affordable and I have yet to have any problem with any of their reels

Lamson rigid or liquid 2.5 3 pack. It comes with a reel and two spare spools. Spools are relatively inexpensive if you need to purchase more (around $60.00). I have the 3 pack in the 3.0 or 3.5 size. Love it.

Right on, thanks for the replies. I'll have to look into these. I have the Hardy Ultralight CA DD for my 6 wt, but didn't realize a new spool was $186!
