Default Leupold CDS maxes out, can't bore sight.

I have a VXR Leupold 3-9 scope with CDS. I mounted it on my Steyr rifle with Burris bases and Leupold PWR rings then tried Vortex Pro rings. Both are the same. I can't bore sight my elevation because I run out of adjustment. I even tried with the CDS dial off. The bases and rings are perfect. I wonder if the scope has an internal issue as I bought it used? Any suggestions? Clayton

Put the rifle in a solid rest aim the scope crosshairs at the center of a target.....twist up and down dial if crosshairs move it may not be the scope.....(start your scopes xhairs in the middle eg: 5 full turns from bottom to top.= 2.5 turns to center xhair ). If crosshairs move it will be something in your mounting possess most likely.

Default Mechanical Zero Adjustment ?

Mechanical zero can reset a scope to back to center.
Some scopes have the numbers of clicks above / below the actual rating of a scope - sorta like out of specification,

Is there any way or chance to get the front and back bases mixed up. Some rifles are not level across the top of the action.

Does the scope have a zero stop, or zero lock that limits the elevation?

99% of the time this is a ring/base/receiver issue.

Unless the scope has a zero stop, then it is usually the person not knowing how the zero stop works..

The receiver is flat with same base number front and rear. The rings align perfect and I tried 2 sets of rings just to be sure. Its not mounting.

Count clicks. How much travel do you have compared to manufacture specs? Also, which way are you running out of elevation?

The click directions are opposite of their labels when you are bore sighting. If you want to go left, click the scope adjustment dial to the right, and up is down.

The dials are labelled to simplify zeroing while shooting, and they are labelled to move the bullet impact, which is actually opposite, as the dials are moving the crosshairs on relation to the un-changing bullet alignment out of the barrel.

From the Leupold site:
Quote:
Running out of Elevation Up: If your bullet is impacting low and you have dialed your scope all the way up, an inclined base such as the BackCountry Cross-Slot 20MOA base may lower your point of impact far enough to sight in.

Running out of Elevation Down: Many Leupold scopes feature a zero-stop, or ZeroLock elevation dial that limits travel below the set zero of the firearm. This allows a rapid return to zero when dialing for bullet drop. If you encounter this mechanical limit in the downward direction while sighting in, loosen the dial set screws and turn the dial in the up direction 1-2 revolutions, then re-tighten the set screws. This will allow more dial travel in the down direction. Once the desired zero has been achieved loosen the set screws again, turn the dial until the zero stop or ZeroLock is engaged, then re-tighten the set screws.

Was also going to suggest this but sounds like he’s on his way now.
Keep us posted on the sight in and check the other thread recently discussing how to do so as there may be some new methods to try out
