That's getting old, if you can try something new and original.

100% agree
McDavid and Draisaitl have TOI stats that compare to first paring defencemen. How long can they keep playing those number of minutes?

Ya can't whip the horse for the entire race.
In an 82 game schedule you gotta have some pace.

Recovery time. Mcdavids recovery time is phenomenal. What most players need say 2 minutes to slow down and recover he does in 1 minute per say. I guess his blood is a little better at getting oxygen to the muscles. Maybe he can keep it up 82 games....
Look at 2 professional boxers for instance. They both could train hard but the one guy may be fatigued. Barely hold his hands up by round 9...
Where the other guy looks refreshed after the break in the round. Both are well conditioned but one guys body naturally recovers faster.

I've got McDavid in my pool that counts ATOI. Against Washington, he was a few seconds shy of 27:30 for the game. Highest on Washington was Carlson at 25:26.

I have no idea if he can keep it up or not. In reality, there are 60 minutes of hockey spread out over roughly 120 minutes, so in theory, if he played half the game, it would be 1 minute of ice time, 3 minutes rest. There are flashes were it would seem he can't, in five games (Chicago, Philly, Detroit, Winnipeg, Minnesota) he only put up points in one of them, but the entire body of work would seem to speak for itself.

YEP...remember a couple yrs ago Coach Babc**k (Leafs coach) said McLellan was riding Connor like a rented mule??
Now Tippett is going down the same road.. 2 lines of complete mediocre under-achieving players ..What can a Coach do?? I liked Tippett's attitude pre-season to the bottom 6. You have a chance to make a difference, take it.
The bottom 6 should be a turnstile of players trying to make an impact.
Other side of this, Oilers play the top 4-5 and the bottom 6 never get enough ice time to get better

Khaira with a minus 7 and no points was rewarded for his efforts and was on the second line. This doesn’t send any type of message to the 8 forwards that aren’t hitting the score sheet. What a joke.
I said last year I would rather have no draisatl but three other 20 goal guys spread amongst the 2nd, 3rd and 4th lines but got laughed at. I still stand by it.
Scoring by committee will get you farther...

Columbus tonight! Mcjesus played 27 min last night and his German disciple played 26 min. This isn’t sustainable me thinks over an 82 game season. Tippett is riding those two hard.
5 goals scored and 17 against in the last 5 games. Cmon 3rd and 4th line...

I'm with you on JJ. He needs to go down for a few games at least.

Agree with that. I think the plan always starts with wanting to play four lines but when you're constantly falling behind, then you have to play the top lines more.

Other stuff. Man, it just seemed like Draisaitl lost every face-off last night. That Larkin line played really well against our top line. I'm thinking the Oil would like a player like that Anathasiou kid.

I Googled "Connor McDavid VO2 max", "Connor McDavid fitness testing" and a few others and came up with nothing like what I have quoted.
I did get a bunch of returns from his fitness testing at the NHL Combine from his draft year. Nothing spectacular. Eichel was probably the most fit guy overall.

I'm still in the camp that says he can't play 25+ minutes a game for an 82 game season.
