Personally I think all of the 270 / 7mm's are excellent 7mm-30 Waters on up. Question you have to ask though is if you will be able to find ammo for the 7mm SAUM 10 or 15 years down the road, which translates into what an old rifle is worth. Maybe we're into the age of Bic lighter disposable cartridges and rifles. New cartridge offerings sell new guns.

There's nothing wrong with the SAUMs, but they don't seem to have caught on quite like the WSM line. I'm not completely sure, but I think even Remington is chambering rifles in WSM but not SAUMs anymore. Maybe the Model 7 can still be found in SAUM?

If you handload, ammo won't be a problem, but as someone already pointed out, finding factory ammo could be a challenge.

Not known to have the feeding issues that you hear about with the WSM's.

It could very well be the best balanced of all the 7mm chamberings, but like everyone has said getting ammo and brass could be a big challenge in the future.

Definitely a cartridge with a short life expectancy but if you reload that shouldn't be an issue. Not sure it offers any real world advantages over the 7mm RM or the 7WSM (another cartridge headed for extinction) but short mags are fun to own and from all I've seen, it does perform well.

No make in particular. With the minimal body taper and sharp shoulder angle of the WSM's they don't feed as slick as a 30-06 for example. I have a WSM and it feeds fine. I have read lots that have had issues, maybe operator error?

Browning actually designed the magazine on the X-Bolt to prevent feeding issues with the short mags. It is described as a rotary magazine but the real key is it offers a perfectly aligned feed and not slightly off-set like some other mags. It was that off set magazine that seemed to have the most feeding issues for the reasons LD outlined.

Owned 5 in three different brands with nary an issue.

The 7mm SAUM is basically a short 280 AI. Should be great!
