Default .22 Hornet Conundrum - need help

Hello friends,

I'm facing a conundrum. I have the opportunity to purchase a beautiful 1st generation Browning A-Bolt Medallion in .22Hornet.

The problem is, the magazine is missing.

Where on this earth would I find a magazine?

I've done quite a bit of online searching - but have come only met dead ends.

How sad, that such a beautiful rifle is now [for all intents and purposes] useless because of the unavailability of a simple box-magazine.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Rod

If you can get it cheap but it.
I bought a Brno ZKW 465 cheap and shot it for years as a single shot until I found a clip.
I made a block to fit the mag hole so I could drop a cartridge in.
Eventually you will find a clip.

That is going to be a tough one to find, discontinued, and it never was common. It is unfortunate that people don't store the magazines in the firearms.

Honest question. Would 3D printing be a viable option? Maybe not for a complete, but certain portions?

OP, I happen to have the same rifle. I have three mags. Two functional and one is not. A piece of the internals snapped. Tried repairing with epoxy. It held for a few years but let go again and I have not attempted to repair again. If we could figure out a way to produce this component of the magazine, I could probably help you out and sell you a magazine. My only condition would be, that if you ever choose to sell that rifle, I get first crack at purchase. They are absolute gems. It’s a sin to have it sit in its current state as such. I’ve been looking for mags for these at every show and store visited for at least a decade and have yet to see, or hear of one.

Well that is a mighty fine offer sir. It's this sort of opportunity that might just be the decision-maker! Part of me is saying, "Buy it" - another part of me is saying, "Don't, because I may never find a magazine." I will speak with the seller tomorrow, and if it's OK with you, I may be in touch.
Thank you!

This one is used and pricy (about $165 Canadian) and is in New Zealand, so make friends with Coiloil so he can buy it and bring it for you next time he visits Alberta.

Man that's a simple looking little component! I think I could almost make one myself!

Buy the gun, you will eventually find a mag and if not, they work great as single shots. They are a fantastically accurate 22 Hornet. I had one that would put 5 under an inch at 200 yards very regularly, and they are pretty on top of that.

Target squares are 1/2" on a side, not the typical 1".

Hey Big Lou - I sent you a Private Message - not sure if it went through though. I can't find it now in my "sent items"

This guy may possibly build them for you, if you can beg/borrow a sample he can work with, https://mag3d.ca/product-category/browning/ . May be worth a call or E-mail, never know what he may have for info, or what is needed to make one, no cost to inquiring.

Well, so far all leads have petered out. The only place I found one was in a gunshop in Christchurch, New Zealand. Export regulations from the New Zealand end make it impossible to get it here.

That sucks. But like I said in my post with the link, ask Coiloil (member here). He is in New Zealand and might know and be able to do something. It is a rather expensive magazine though.

Buy the gun. Whether you ever find a mag or mot you will be very happy shooting it as a single shot. If not, pm please me as I would be happy to have another.

Is the A-bolt you're looking at in that good a shape?

Yes, I believe it is.
It's an A-Bolt Micro Medallion. From what I understand, a somewhat rare rifle in .22 Hornet.

That 22Hornet that you just purchased is a beauty of a rifle. Let us know how it shoots.
