There are no tricks to catching fisher. Just put out a lured beaver baited leaning pole set in a known travel route and have patience. Fisher are opportunistic predator/scavengers that will eat virtually anything; berries, birds and eggs, fish and of coarse MEAT. Thus many types of food and lure will attract them.

Fisher lure, leaning pole that’s a good diameter and not too steep, and for a trap I’d suggest belisle 160 in a box, and anchored well
Any meat works as bait. I use weasel or marten carcass

I prefer ground sets for Fisher, however, I run a 4 day check (max). Any longer, and I would set so my catch remaining off the ground. Beaver meat is #1 bait, Grouse #2 (whats left after cleaning them). I don't like 120's at all for Fisher, 160 minimum, 220's work great as well. Trigger's set to top of trap, spread wide. This will allow the Fisher to get its head in the trap fully (they can get quite big). I prefer to set any transition area (poplar to spruce, willow etc.). Generally will not catch many Fisher in pine areas or swampy areas. Use a skunk based lure, and keep prevailing winds in mind when setting...make sure that scent gets dispersed. Sounds like you will be setting near a creek? If so, maybe set 160's with pans, as you will likely get Mink working your set.

Sour the deer meat a bit, just until it gets a smell, not rotten. Roll it up into chunks about the size of a baseball and freeze it. This will help with weasels and mice stealing your bait pc by pc. I find if not using a fatty meat like beaver, some taint on the meat will draw in the Fisher.

We are done as of Saturday our 6 fisher quote is filled. We use 160's in a box. None of the boxes are more than 5 ft off the ground. Vertical or running pole it does not seem to matter. Use beaver meat and grouse cleanings. We find a skunk based lure like Marten Magic works great for us. Many times you get one and within the following week you get the second one. This year 4 of the 6 came out of 2 traps.
