Default Beretta 1301 tactical

Recently bought a 1301 tactical mainly for calling coyotes next winter. Wanted something light weight for when I’m also packing a rifle.

Was wondering who has one and if anyone is running a red dot on them.

I was thinking about putting a vortex venom on it but think it may be too high when mounted on the rail.

There are a few options for low direct mounts that replace the rail. Aimpoint micro or Trijicon rmr footprint are the most common. RDSC has the scalarworks mounts. There’s also options from aridus industries and S&J hardware. You might have trouble finding one to accept the vortex sight though as I think they use a different footprint than either the Trijicon or the Aimpoint.

I believe the vortex is the same foot print as the Burris fast fire.

Go with an RMR if you want a RDS on a 12g. I put one on my 1895 I use for griz work and it's an absolute game changer. Heaviest load I've shot so far is 460gr +p but I have some 540gr +p coming, no issues. I've had Vortex RDS and several friends/coworkers who used them and they have all failed.

An awesome upgrade to consider is a Pro lifter, especially since your planning to use it in winter (gloves). The pro lifter stays up so makes reloading easier and reduces lifter bite on your thumb. Also put an extended charging handle on mine and it is a nice improvement as well.

Have not put an optic on mine but the aftermarket mounts are a good way to go, in my opinion.

The problem with puttting a red dot on the rail the gun comes with is then your head isn’t down were it should be when shooting.

I've been thinking about finding a gunsmith that can properly machine an RMR or RMS/c mount on the top of my Mossberg 930 receiver. If there's enough metal to do it.

Like the new 940 Pro Tactical... "Optics ready"

I wish the 1301 came like that.

I'm buying a mini cowitness mount from tactical ordinance. They have a few options. I'm going to run a holosun optic with a red dot and a 32 moa circle

I mounted the vortex venom red dot on the rail. It sits way to far ahead and too high for my liking. I think I’ll stick with the ghost rings for now. With the cyl choke and 00 buck flight control I’m only getting a 6” pattern at 35 yards. With a full choke and #4 buck I’m getting about a 24” pattern. Think that is what I will use for coyotes.
