Default Anyone for New Year’s Day fishing at Birch or Burnstick?

I’m in the area “cow sitting” for a friend, my daughter is turning 4 tomorrow and wants to ice fish for her birthday?

I don’t know the lake at all, looking for someone or another family that wants to go out with us. I have our ice fishing gear.

Also, any update on ice depth?

Happy new year everyone !!

Try Phylis lake, might be better for a youngster. Easier walk as well

I didn't measure but Birch had about a foot of ice when I went yesterday.

I would say 10”-12” depending on where you were. I was out on Sunday.

Saw 4 fish all day. Caught two of them. 16” rainbow and 12” brookie.

Kept the rainbow, tasted muddy, had a bunch of snails in its belly.

Both ate a red hook with shrimp.

Might not be enough action for a little one, Phyllis might be better as you can catch a bunch of perch, should make it fun for them.

Thanks for the tips. Phyllis was the ticket! The kids had a blast with those small perch.
My two year old caught his first fish on hard water too.
Happy new year guys !!

Nice to hear. Important to keep the kids entertained or interest fades quickly.
Phyllis is good for that, the others around here not so much for the most part
