Default Bullet's for 223???

I'm shooting a Sako Hunter not heavy barrel, in 223. I'm shooting factory ammo as I don't reload. I have found the Hornady V Max in 55gr and 40gr to work the best. At 200yrds both are shooting 1 1\2" to 1 3\4 groups. I am surprised they are both shooting that good, I thought one would be better than the other.

What bullet would you choose for Coyote and Jackrabbits etc?
I do like the faster flatter shooting 40gr, but more wind effect.

Also, the more shooting I did through the day, waiting the same time between shots, and groups trying to keep barrel temp the same. The groups seemed to be getting better, doing everything the same.
Any idea why that would be? (Dirty barrel vs clean)

Thanks.

I use Speer TNT's and Seirra Varminters for my coyote bullets in the 223- Blitzkings sometimes also, but I have also used Vmax's with good results.
Varget and Benchmark are the powders I use most....

Head shots on the wabbits right (either bullet will do)

Are you looking to save the pelts on the yotes? (perhaps the ligher bullet, but since it's a 223 and the wind might be a factor you might have to try the 55's and see what sort of damage they will do, then evaluate from there.

I have been using the 40gr Vmax for several years now in my .223,pelt damage has been minimal and accuracy is superior, but will ultimately depend on your barrel twist and how well they shoot.I shoot my 40gr out of a 1:12 24" pipe.

That's what mine is, 1:12 24". Are you shooting factory's or reloads?

Thanks.

The 55Vmax has shot very, very well out of every .22 CF I've tried it in. Only a handful of rifles, but......

Not all that hide friendly, in my experience though. Still, I'll be using it this winter again.
