Default Overland Flooding

Seems the stuff southern alberta got with with a week or two is catching up with us central albertans today. Pretty crazy. They said rivers will peak in the next 12 to 24 hours.

I've just got back to Fort Mac after a 1000 plus km drive, down to St Paul and Bonneville, More water that I can ever recall seeing, creeks were theres drains, rivers in creeks, sum flooding over the road in a couple spots, feel for the farmers, going to be tough to get crops in, with this much water and a late spring, best we all hope for a dry fall,

It's going to be a mess. It's like we went from winter to summer. Really don't need April showers now.

Hitting those puddles fast enough makes for a good carwash.

Lots of range roads around here have water running across them. I haven’t seen any major wash outs yet though. Pretty much all of the snow is gone now so it should taper off a bit. LOTS of water just sitting not going anywhere. Yeah, it’s gonna be a bugger for farmers seeding all right.

Here in the insurance biz memos keep coming thru my email telling the brokers they cannot bind any policies in any of the warning areas and will not be issuing any new policies for overland in any of these areas.

So they don't cover overland flooding, but when your rates go up they tell you it's because your area had a lot of overland flooding last year, that they didn't pay for

No new policies in the warning areas not they dont cover it for existing policies.. People will try to buy policies after the fact so they shut it down in those areas.

I hope the sunny and warmer weather we're supposed to get this week deals with frozen topsoil and those ice jams, and gets the water moving vertically instead of horizontally.

Wow, Red Deer area water levels look really dicey!

Here's a link to current overland flood warnings for the province:
