Default Clothing for drilling rigs

It has been a few years snice I last step onto the floor of a drilling rig.

What does everyone wear now for long underwear as their base layer?

25 years ago it had to be 100% cotton next to the skin. Still think some companies are asking for that. Problem is that everything in the store has some sort of spandex/elastane in the clothing.

IS polypropylene a good alternative?

I do believe while poly pro will keep you warm it will melt. If it not cotton why not wool?

Ice breaker, no question. Expensive, but works. Can even wear it multiple days and it doesn’t stink. I believe it does have some fireproof rating for what it’s worth.

Polypropylene is not allowed on the rigs anymore to the best of my knowledge. Wool is a good choice maybe with a silk or similar under layer to help with the itching.
