Default Bear Bait

I am just starting to commercially trap Feral hogs in Alberta.
Just wondering if anyone would be interested in hogs for bear bait.
you pick up @ $0.50/lb, I deliver @ 1.00/lb. (min. 100 lbs.). $0.95 / km after 100 km from Edmonton
Send me a PM if you are interested.

This is a new one to me for Alberta.

Is it legal to sell Feral pigs, dead and/or alive?

Is it legal to use Feral pigs to bait wildlife?

Is there a disease concern for human consumption or wildlife?

Happy to hear you're catching some of these pigs.
Must be getting a few to make this offer.

You actually have pigs or just looking for a market ?

At 50 cents to a buck a pound, this could be great food for the dogs too.
Just not for those on a Raw diet (disease issues).
Cook it first.

I'm still leery of the bear bait idea.
It would suck to be introducing parasites and diseases to a bear population.

Default Bear bait

I haven't checked with F&G about the legality of using hogs as bear bait, but we can use beaver carcasses as bear bait, should not be an issue with hogs as bear bait.
No I don't have hogs yet. I am looking to dispose of any hogs I capture, as I either have take them to Redux (rendering Plant) , or sell them as bear bait.

Also, I just got a PM about selling live hogs, I am sure that there is laws against that, so I won't be selling live hogs.

Don't be too quick in assuming that using feral pigs for bear bait is legal.
I would get a legal opinion from F&W in writing before doing so.
Cover your butt.

I believe that Feral Pigs are still legally defined as domestic livestock, beavers aren't.
Similar to Feral horses.

The laws require livestock to be slaughtered in a licensed facility and pass inspection for human consumption before it can be used as beat bait.
It's possible this law will apply to feral pigs as well.

I wish you well with the trapping.
Don't overlook the dog food suggestion as a way to financially supplement this endeavor.

So very true about the inspection part..
When we were checked out the officer said in the future have the inspection paper work with you ..It was all new to me
We didnt use the scraps and used the beavers we had only , which work better anyway , in my opinion ..
They do watch and what a feral hog is classed as I have no idea . But the sugestion to check with F&G is what I'd do

OP--- I hope you get them all

Default Bear bait

Thx for all the input, I will most definitely check with F&G and get it in writing.
There will be more to consider regarding the sale of feral hogs, dead or alive. But I am still looking for Bear baiters that would be interested in the future, so that I can build a call list of those that would like hogs, if I can sell them. That way I won't have hogs decaying on my acreage, waiting for Redux to pick up.
I am not sure if it is the same in Canada, but in the USA if is illegal to transport feral hogs, due to diseases. again I will be checking that out as well.
