New Rifle 308 reviews
I am looking at expanding my hunting rifles and looking at a 308 with preferably a wood stock - these stood out:
1) Ruger Hawkeye Hunter
2) CZ 557 Ranger
3) Browning ABolt III Hunter
I like the price points as I hope to add a 308 and 300wm in near future
anyone have any experience? or other recommendations?
I like the look of the Weatherby Lazerguard but its not made in 308

Can check out the Winchester featherweight.
A new cz 600 lux.
I’d probably go with the new xbolt over the more affordable abolt.
Zatasava? If they are still being imported.

Also pretty much every sako rifle but costs are rising on those compared to some of your others.

May want to give some thought to switch barrel rifles like the Blaser, Sauer etc. They come with great wood stocks, as fancy as you like, and with the switch barrel and Bolt heads there is no limit to the number of cartridges you can get them for.

CZ 600 looks interesting. Hopefully they didn't cheapen them up to drastically like they did with the 550 replacements. Would be nice if they brought in a few more chamberings on top of the old standards too.
Interchangeable barrels in similar cartridge families has some cachet I guess.

updates on the 308
I am looking at a wood stock and I found some decent deals:
Browning A Bolt III and Browning X Bolt
Tikka T3x
Winchester 70
~ found these models all in wood stock, price range is 1000-1500
any experience or preference's?

My personal preference is the Winchester Model 70 Featherweight, although I wouldn't think you would go wrong with either the X-Bolt or Tikka.
Been running Winchester Featherweights for the last 40 years, no issues and always did the job if I did mine. Just really like the fit & feel of them, especially the XTR's from '80's.

X2 on Winchester model 70 featherweights. Great rifles.
Or a Remington 700 mountain rifle if you could find one.

My wife and I both have A-Bolt medallions and love them, not sure if the AB3 has changed from the original. Don't think you will go wrong with the Tikka or the Winchester, which ever one feels right.

I like Brownings but I’d stick with a used A-bolt II or a new X-bolt over the AB3’s. They are a cheap gun in comparison.

I have a T3 .270 and a X Bolt 30.06
Both great guns but for me the X Bolt is better

Just a thought...not knowing what you currently have my suggestion would be focus more on platform. Ie. Shorter lighter carbine in .308 and longer rifle in .300wm.
That way you have a more handy rifle for thicker cover and areas where light and handy are king and a longer barreled rig for reaching out a bit further and hunting more open areas. I'd look for a 16-20" barrel true short action for the 308. Maybe with open sights as backup, and good ergonomicsfor fast offhand shooting. then a full 25-26" barrel 300wm set up to reach out a bit farther...just my thoughts

I've owned a .300WM in the AB3, a .308 in the M70, and currently use a .308 T3X superlite. Out of all those platforms, I prefer the Tikka. I found the AB3 a little on the heavy side, and I didn't like the magazine style (the box that clips onto the floorplate). The Tikka has shot the best for me, straight out of the box.
