Vintage gear, degenerating to a new level.
I've developed a bit of a thing for vintage gear, and today while I was tuning up my reels for the coming season I figured I'd snap a few photos of the collection. That's when I realized I'd finally hit rock bottom, all of the reels I'm currently using are older than me! If I added up all the ball bearings in my reels I still probably wouldn't have enough to assemble a half decent Shimano, should I be seeking professional help?

used a Mitchell
from the time I moved to northern Ontario 1978 until long after I moved to Alberta in 1984. Still have it but the bail no longer functions. Best reel I have ever owned and I can only guess how many pickerel pike and rainbows it landed. Bought my son a newer Mitchell for his birthday in 2012 and it lasted 1 season.

Yeah, I've got 2 Mitchell 300's, a big 306, and a little 308 for ice fishing. I've also got a Daiwa and a DAM. I probably fish the 300's the most, I've got a few spare spools and use them for everything from little trout to big pike.

If you are interested I have an excellent Canadian source for Mitchell parts. PM me and I can point you in the right direction if you want to get that old Mitchell working again.

Nice collection. No help needed as far as i can see.
My goto river setup is a 1965 Mitchell 300 on a older 6'6" glass rod. Only thing ive changed is to a fiber washer for the drag. Only thing its ever broke is the bail spring once in years and ive got several new ones just in case. It will out last me of that im sure.

Sharp eye! I've got a DAM Quick 330 on my travel rod. I like how the bail can close right to the body when its not in use, I'm assuming to avoid damage to the bail and to relax the spring. Despite the name it is actually the slowest reel of the bunch, very smooth and tough though. It looks sort of like a miniature Radicon gear box inside.
That rod spends a lot of time getting banged around in the trunk of my dual sport motorcycle. Its a pretty sweet way to hit a bunch of hard to reach spots quickly.

A Mitchell reel was my first spinning reel when I was a young lad.
But nothin as rare as this.

When I saw the header I knew there would be at least one Mitchell 300 in there. That was my first reel and i babied it for years. Fond memories and I caught a lot of fish on it. Cool post!
