Poker
Anyone else play much poker?
House games, casino, etc.
I play in the casino 1-2 times a week, house game 1-2 times a week.
I'm pretty deep into it, kinda very detailed records, winning player, study lots.
Until baseball, fishing and hunting season.

I play online, at least an hour a day, usually a six person sit and go.

I’m a big fan. Don’t have the time to play much anymore unfortunately.

You guys acktually have real money to play ?
Not wooden chips carved from pine trees or saved up wooden nickels etc.
I'd have to struggle to come up with like 3 US. dollars spending money.
GTHO.

Love playing, almost always casino. Enjoy River cree the most but haven’t tried them all. Exclusively cash games, took a long time to try it out but love it. I take breaks after bad beats and or bad calls haha. On an extended break right now and it will probably continue with the fishing coming up. I find home games are usually tournaments and I have a hard time enjoying 6 hours of poker for a winning potential of a couple hundred.

I would love to have gambling records going all the way back. Haha we can all speculate but having the numbers would be awesome. I don’t think I have lost that much over my time but I am sure selective memory aids those figures. Haha

The best house games are played without money.
For the last 10 years or so my wife and I played hearts with friends of ours
2 doors down, no money just playing cards a few beers and a sing song from
time to time.
Hell of a lot of fun, nobody ever got mad.
Last week, a player had a stroke and then another next day.
Game over.
I will never forget the times we shared playing cards, it was always a fun thing
to do and it never involved money. That's what kept it that way.

Hunting, fishing, trapping, playing cards are all ways of people getting together.
Everything is right with that.
Doing anything above for money is simply wrong and or misguided.
This post is not meant for most AO readers it's meant for the younger
people in AB.
Hope you all, read and understand.

Poker is for money. It's not real poker unless something is wagered.
Cards are played for fun whether it be crib or crazy eights.
And, all the other stuff mentioned is just also for fun.
And, I'm not sure what you mean by the younger people comment?

Its actually a proven fact that the selective memory does just that.

I'm also a cash specialist but I do well in home games tourneys even though it can be a tough going with the slow action and weird plays by the fish.
I actually host a house cash game once a week. Now that's fun!

Home games
I’ve been playing on and off for about 40 years, mostly home games. Nobody had heard of Hold’em back then, and the stakes were relatively low. Now it’s almost always Hold’em, and the buy in is $300.00. I don’t play as often any more, but still enjoy myself immensely. The nearest casino with tables is about 5 1/2 hours away, so I don’t spend much time there.

I used to play poker a lot when I was in university. Mostly online and I preferred playing the larger tournaments. Had 2 final tables in bigger tourneys (5th of 6432 and 2nd of 4804) although they were only $1 buy ins so didn't have huge payouts.
Eventually I started to get bored of it and was mainly just playing to try and make money. If you ever want a challenge try playing $300 heads up matches with the guys that play online poker for a living. Somehow I still made money but I quickly realized all it would take is a couple bad days to go broke so I decided to cash out and find a new hobby(which is when I got back into fishing). I turned $100 into 2k though so I did pretty good.

We have a select group of about 8-10 people who get together over the winter months to play Texas hold 'em..we play at least 1 time a month at our place...I have some pretty crazy friends, so even when losing its a blast too say the very least...don't get me wrong, it's all fun but seeing as how we only play in winter..the money gets outa control some nights..depending on the amount of alcohol they absorb...which works me as I don't drink. But I still lose...now that bothers me...

Poker is like bingo, everyone's a winner, no losers.
I play about a year to a year and a half on a hundred bucks playing 3.50 buy in, 6 hand sit and goes, one sometimes two a day. I figure if not for the rakes I would be a little ahead. Some times I go on good runs and think I have it all figured out. Then the good Lord says not so fast, here eat a 10 game loosing streak.

I used to be big into it. 1/2 No limit at the Casino was my specialty. Never really enjoyed online or tournament style. It was my only source of income and it paid my bills for 2 yrs before I slowly lost interest. Best single night was over $4000. I need to be able to read people, and knew the numbers (pot odds) very well, within a few percent, which is why tourneys and online weren't very successfull for me. Haven't played in a couple years now

Used to play online lots over the years, multi tabled 6+ tables at a time at micro limits ($.25/$.50). Poker was half the battle, bankroll management is the other. After doing that for a few years the fun of the game was lost. I now play 1 live game every month and have been enjoying it a lot more. Unlike most gamblers I’m willing to admit I’ve lost more than I have won.

Poker is gambling.
Gambling is entertainment for most (for a few it can be a job...and for some it can be a debilitating vice).
I can play with buddies...win some and lose some. Even if I lose $100 in a 5 hour home game it is 1/3 what it costs to play golf nearby for 5 hours. Plus bonus snacks can be free!
Vices can hurt families...such as alcohol and drug addiction and also work addiction and even fishing addiction.
If you can't function normally doing any activity and it consumes you and negatively impacts your finances and your family and friends...seek help.
Otherwise I agree...no one should be preaching to me that I should not be gambling while they are drinking a beer telling me that.

That being said...who wants to watch this thread and try and get us into a few fun money tournaments on pokerstars?

I would love a fun league, Monday nights in the winter or something. Just for bragging rights, would be a hoot. Maybe in the fall I will see if there is enough interest. Maybe bragging rights would be serious enough for all? After reading what money others are playing for, I would not play for cash.
