Default 308 Win

i always hear good things about the 308 Win and am wondering what you guys have done with your 308's. How have they worked out to the longer ranges? As i am looking for a cartridge that will reach out there. How does it work on coyotes, deer, elk and moose?

It will tip steel rams at 500 Meters no problem.
It will kill a man to near on a Kilometer.

The essence of long range shooting and hunting has a lot more to do with the "nut behind the bolt" than the caliber in the pipe.

Have you contacted that Gentleman Catnthehat, had told you about?
When you do, he will show you what we mean.

If you're looking to kill stuff, the 308 oughta do it.

The .308 Win. is still one of the best hunting & target cartridges out there. Unfortunately, it is also often unfairly under-rated ... mostly by the 'Bigger-Is-Better" Magnum crowd.

What follows is a link to an older thread of mine that should provide some more details and opinions for you . . .

The 308 is one of the so-called best all around calibres. It is a shortened 30-06 and shoots a few hundred feet per second slower than an '06. It will work for just about anything you could ever hunt, as long as the right bullet is used. My first moose was dropped with a 165 grain 308 bullet. I also cut my teeth on 308`s in the military....it is a great round. As for accuracy, I think it still holds the world records. It is good out to about 1000 yards. Beyond that point, it becomes sub sonic and accuracy suffers as a result.

If you check out the various factory loadings,on average the 30-06 delivers 100fps to 150fps more velocity than the 308win with the same bullet.
