Win 25wsm Coyote, Any thoughts?
I have been looking for a good general pupose rifle for coyotes to deer. Does anyone have experiance or knowledge on one of these? I found a decent used one at a reasonable price. Thank's for your thoughts!

The 25 WSSM is a dead end it seems. I doubt you'll be able to even find a rifle so chambered within a few years. IMO, the only WSM cartridge with any long term future is the 270 WSM.
For what you are looking at, my choice would be the 25-06 REM. It is a great long range deer rifle and is very effective on coyotes at very long ranges. I have had lots of them over the years and always found this calibre to be an accuracate round and was like a bolt of lightning on deer. The Speer TNT 87gr bullet was especially good with coyotes! For deer, I preferred the Nosler Partition 100 gr.

Is the 25-06 a flat shooting caliber like the 257?

agreement, until something tops the 257wby (weatherby supporter here!)...imagine the wsm sloganers' advertising... "weve created a new #2 25 caliber, buy it now"
will your 25wsm work, absolutely! In a few years youll be hunting with 'a classic cartridge', then you and Catin the Hat will have something to share..practically everything he shoots has a hyphen in it 38-55, 30-30

I dunno, the 300wsm is a solid contender, too!

257wby's are king of the 25's (if you consider velocity as the factor)
the 257 wby usually bests the 2506 by 200-350fps
there are 257/300wby and 257stw's custom rigs out there, overcoming gravity has a price, more powder, more case, more bbl, more friction, more noise, more. more.....................but like any performance item you better not be afraid to spend $.

I draw the line at 6.5, wouldn't own a 25 /270WSM ( can't believe I just said that!)
While it is common knowledge that I like wildcats and stuff with slashes/hyphens in their name, I do not own a rifle chambered in either of the above cartridges.
I did until recently , but have since sold them to finance a new project- the "triple necked terror"!

From a handloading and totally unbiased point of view, I can offer this info.
The 25WSSM cases are less than stellar in the quality department.
They are also VERY thick, this is a basic design with them, not by accident. The chambers on the WSSM rifles that are being made are somewhat lacking as well, not all the time but often enough that there can be many issues that I have seen with accuracy.
The 25/06 is much easier to load for, and of course, the 257 Roy is ubntouchable in the speed department.
I have a tendeancy to work with a cartridge until I pull my hair out, and the WSSM wildcat I own is now in its "teardown" era, and getting rebarre4ld back to 6.5WSM.
I would not buy a 25WSSM if I were looking for a true long range varmint rifle, and the short action thing is a non issue with me as mos of my rifles are single shot falling blocks....Cat
