Default Storing raw fur?

How do you guys store your fur if you want to keep it until next year. For coyotes, I’m thinking to skin, flesh, roll up fur side out and vacuum pack. Into the freezer they go. Sound about right?

I wouldn't recommend fleshing before freezing. I skin and freeze coyotes when I have too many to put up all at once. The fat helps protect the hide from freezer burning. I also do it with my Spring beaver and muskrat pelts and put them up in the Fall just before coyote season.

Prices are still up, i would sell this year without fooling around.

But the best way for long term storage is dried and all fat gone, then froze. Theyll look like they just came off the stretcher 2 years from now. Seen a 15 year old mink once that looked fair.

Dont flesh and freeze prior to drying, the potential for them to dry out or freezer burn is great.

I had 5 fox in the freezer like this just in Safeway bags not sealed well at all and they were in there for 2 years when I took them out it’s true they looked just like the day the came off the stretcher.

Yup.

I'm not sure why you'd not want to sell your coyotes this year if you are going to put them all the way up anyway. I was thinking along the lines of you not having time to do that.

Short term I roll the pelts up face out so I can hang them by the nose and let them unroll when thawing. If I had to freeze them longer term I'd roll them face in.

I was just wondering. I have 35 left to sell and am meeting with the buyer on Saturday. After that my coyote season is over.

Wondering what is the best way to do it. I’ve never done it before, but have a couple of buddies that were asking me. Wanted to make sure I had it right before giving out advice.
