Default plywood

Is there a cheaper source for plywood than the Home Depots, Ronas and Lowes?

There's also Timbertown.

I just checked and it looks like there's 3 locations in Calgary and 1 in Canmore.

I've purchased some cabinet grade plywood from them in the past and their prices were pretty good. They'll do the picking, so just be sure you're happy with the stock you're given. I received a banged up board once that either they were trying to pawn off on someone or maybe they just didn't see it or realize it. In any case. It's always best to verify before you leave.

Oh sorry, I should mentioned I look for the rough/construction stuff. It's for a horse shelter (inside) to cover the tin.

Thanks!

Try Lumber King....around 32nd or McKnight & Deerfoot. If they have what you need, it most likely cheaper than the bigger chain stores.

Do you want plywood or OSB? And what thickness? 1/2" OSB is around $12/sheet. Can't get much cheaper than that.

I've bought lifts of delam ply 3/4 spruce before from timbertown. You get 1 or 2 sheets in lift that aren't useable all else ok. Pretty good savings.
Phone to see if they have & check price.
Can also find sometimes on kijijji
Lumber prices have gone up 30% in the last year.
Timbertown, Windsor , Starr building materials.

Used a fair amount of D grade and Factory in my time, but you've got to get lucky to find it. For just a few sheets, couple of bucks ain't worth pulling your hair out. Home Depot seems to have about the best price around. Over the last few months, I've seen 3/8 run from 16 to 23. a sheet. OSB is significantly cheaper, but won't handle exposure to weather nearly as well. Just like oil, lumber is traded on the Commodity market and you're at the speculator's mercy.

There are large plywood suppliers that sell to manufacture's, contractors and the public.
Try Alpine bldg. products in Edm. You can also get a much larger selection of plywood and osb

Don't buy OSB! My horses LOVE eating that stuff, must be all the glue in it. Gets old fixing/replacing etc real fast.

they're not picky, they like plywood as well. Horses who eat wood are lacking something, I was once told, Brains. Few rainstorms and OSB will swell to twice it's thickness and turn to mush.

They don't chew. (Yet?) It's an open barn they are not locked inside. Oh and we use the boards inside.

x2 if you're buying a number of sheets I've heard that he/they might be willing to deal a little bit .

Was at Rona ( Edmonton Tr ) this morning , 7/16 OSB is $ 14.95

1/2 Standard Spruce ply is $ 24.98

5/8 Standard Spruce ply is $ 30.44

In 25 yrs of Home Reno , never found that Windsor , or even Tinbertown . to be a place for best price lumber .

the Commodities angle means you can find sudden and dramatic price changes as well.

True. I buy a lot of 3/8th's sheeting. I've seen it as low as $11 and just a week or so ago it had shot up to $16! A 50% increase!!
