How about if all post the quoted price of windshield glass of said vehicle, so we can find out if any local guys shop is out of line on price.

most people don't know that a windshield is designed to protect you, not perform against rock chips. It is still just 2 pieces of glass sandwiching a piece of laminate. A properly installed windshield should be what you are after, not a defective one that you got a better deal on. You get what you pay for in most cases and this is one of them
