Default Need a new windshield for my vehicle

Is there any difference in quality, or do I just go with the cheapest quote? Thanks

Depends,

There is a very large quality difference, but I expect to replace mine almost every year, so I go with the cheapest.

I assume you are not going through insurance?

No not going through insurance. So what should I be looking for to get a decent windshield?

I use them too. Never had any problems with the glass and their prices are really good.

I use Windshield surgeons too, they sell a bit cheaper, for me i dont need to spend double on a windshield just to have it sandblasted in a year anyway. One tip i have learned as a friend worked for Speedy Glass. When you book, ask if they have any damaged in transit glass for your vehicle they want to sell. I have got some sweet deals due to a cosmetic defect or tiny chip way away from your sight lane.

Got a quote from Windshield Surgeons. They were $100 cheaper than the next highest quote. Sounds great right? Maybe not so much when taken in context with the information from the g&m article.
They said they can get the car back to me in 1.5hrs. Counter intuitive to getting a good job done based on the cure time required as per the article.

Default Windshields

Allot of people do not realize that poorly formed Windshields are not conducive to lasting as it is under more stress than a properly formed one. One hit and it can crack easily. Something to consider when looking.

Maybe it depends upon year and make however I asked a windshield guy and he said go cheapest. They are all the same for my vehicle.

Only odd thing was that I don't have heated glass...however the heated glass windshield was cheaper that the not heated. Must be a volume thing.

I just put the heated one in.

Moore's in Calgary, good price, 2 grades of glass and will do the install at your home or work for ten bucks more than the in-shop price.

It's like rear defrost in the front.

Wherever you go for your windshield ask if that's the best price they will give. The windshield business is really competitive and if you call around you can find some really good deals.

I got mine done at 5 Star Auto Glass in Calgary
They use pretty good glass since the OEM Nissan glass would crack from anything hitting the window. Its taken a few good hits and only chipped no star or cracks yet, so overall very happy with the glass quality.
It was the best priced as well I think it was around $350 all in for a 2015 Nissan Rogue

Fusion Glass in Red Deer is hands down the best glass shop in all of Alberta. I live in GP now and wait till I make a trip down to Red Deer before I would change my windshield. Sounds crazy but when you find the best of anything it is worth the wait.

So looking at these recommendations on the forum recently I went with Windshield surgeons and thought I'd share my experience to save someone a headaches.
Big mistake so far.
The replacement they ordered (PGW) came with distortion in the passenger side and the installer broke all the molding clips on the bottom cowling as well. No biggie as they bought new clips but they needed to change out the new windshield as it was like looking through a coke bottle on the passenger side.
They ordered a replacement and changed it out but did the switcheroo which was not mentioned beforehand. This time they installed XYG brand glass which isn't what I was charged for originally and is a lower priced glass. This time the molding is deformed on one side and the hood catches the trim trying to open it because it looks like they used too much sealant raising the glass too high and the glass again has visible distortion although more to the edge and not quite as bad.
They again said they will replace the windshield.
These guys keep claiming that all glass comes from China now but I believe that's all their distributor stocks and pushes because of price point. When you ask for something else they say they can't get anything else or they don't know what is available.

I'm now slated to get a 3rd windshield in as many weeks on my 3 year old car because of the quality of glass and installation and every time they remove the windshield they just do more damage to the vehicle.

I should have went OEM from the dealer at double the cost as this is not worth the headache.
If you guys are looking at windshields stay away from any marked DOT563 from the P.R.O.C. if you can unless you don't mind wavy glass.

just bought a new windscreen for the sequoia, Dynamic in Calgary. $200 for the heated, no issues, no problem, they give you a loaner (when for lunch) for the 1 hour install. Good service.

A couple of years ago I had a windshield done on my F150 by Apple Autoglass on the west end of Edmonton. They told me that the glass I had put in, had some lead content in it, that makes them stronger to resist rock chips. Really good service too.
