I'm surprised at the people voting him down in the comments section. He's simply telling people not to be utterly retarded..... That they need to be told that is where the real problem lies.

That is amazing looting "appears" to not be a problem.

There has to be some mangy vermin hanging around somewhere to prey on the good honest folks.

Darwin Law should be in effect......

A few days ago on the Canoe.ca website, there was a picture of a blue hair male standing on hand rail of some bridge, with the bow river rushing beneath him.

He falls in,guess he would need saving wouldn't he?

i had never heard of calgarys mayor and wouldn't have been able to pick him out of a photo line-up. after watching him on the news these last couple days i was impresed at how he has been handling this disaster. he is very well spoken and answers questions clearly and directly without the ussual vague answers and buck passing that i have come to expect from politicians. in my opinion calgary has a very able mayor. hope he runs for premier one day.

It's easy to be a leader in a crisis. Most people with an ounce of leadership ability can handle it. There is little gray area in the decisions that need to be made. The rubber hits the road on the day-to-day facets of the job.

Nenshi isn't a great leader but like George W. he's had his "911" and will be assured re-election. Events like this are godsends to politicians.

Not that it matters much to me. (Cynicism off).

I agree. the last time a Calgary mayor with common sense like that ran for premier, it was the best thing that had ever happened to alberta. id vote for that guy.....unless he ran as a liberal in any incarnation.

He's a puppet. Doing things to keep good public image. CEMA is running the show and providing the messages. CEMA controls who gets to return home, when the power gets turned back on and what resources go where.

Some of the people making the decisions don't have the skill set to make the decisions.

Its kind of hard to argue against common sense. Somehow some people manage to do it.

The message is about not boating on the river and requiring a rescue boat that could be used elsewhere. Going out on the river is just not a smart thing to do until the water gets back to normal.

I find it amazing that people would even consider going on the water in these conditions.

And folks, these are two 100% correct opinions....in my opinion.

Nenshi is nothing more than a talking head....and an arrogant one at that. As you can tell, I am not a fan

And by the way....

LongDraw: You can have a differing opinion. It is a free country. You don't even have to like FishingMom...entirely your choice.

However...you need to respect EVERYONE'S opinion, whether you like them or not. Voicing your opinion in the manner that you did makes you look like an arrogant dick.

Just sayin'...

No need for a reply.

*edit*...as I typed this, I see you edited your post. Glad to see you re-evaluated your thoughts.

Question

Some other cities in our country don't have it so good.

Careful what you wish for!

He is better than ol' Bronco was in my opinion. Time will tell if he proves to be at Klein's level or if he will go down as "just another politician"

Unfortunately, Nenshi faces a lot of racism in Alberta. I don't think anyone can deny that they have heard plainly racist reasons for not liking him.

I would hope he is judged on his abilities and intelligence as a leader in the future (Mayor or Premier) rather than his skin colour.

Anyway, there's my bleeding heart statement for the day....

I really wasn't looking to start a debate but I should have known better. I just thought it was refreshing to see a politician use common sense and common language to get a point across.

Dropping a political name in an online forum and expecting to not see a debate is like dropping a mouse into a piranha tank and expecting them to turn vegetarian....

c'mon, Jabba the Hut would be a funny mayor,, too bad Princess Leia let herself slide and then plummet and slide some more, cause that could make for an interesting office.

Ol Bronco - the french guy - did something not so cool,, he made it so real estate holdings by aldermen and mayors could not be viewed by the public.

Nenshi reversed that.

Don't really matter, Ol'Bronco got his Peace Bridge to fall on a bit of his property anyways and made a kings ransom.

It would be good if Nenshi could get to the bottom of the $1 billion in tenders that were not actually tendered out and always went to the same outfit whether they tendered or not.

I agree. I don't give a damn what your skin colour or sex is, as long as you're capable. Sadly more people tend to vote on the former than the latter.

No worries CB ... for some folks here, common sense and common language don't count for much.

Go figure

I was hesitant about Nenshi when he was elected. Over the time since the election, he has definitely won me over. The guy has a mind of his own. When you meet him face to face, and ask him a question - he can't script that... he has to reply from his own brain.

Sure, CEMA is running the show, and lets be obvious - a mayor shouldn't run the show in an emergency situation, he's a politician, not an emergency disaster commander...but should be in the loop.

In High River, all the mayor can report is what the Canadian Forces tell him and what he witnesses... is he a puppet, or a clown, or a scripted fool?

Also - I hope everyone complaining voted... if you didn't, shut your trap.

Yup some people are going to look at him and make some assumptions. But lots of assumptions are made in politics. Ralph Klein was nothing like I expected him to be when I actually met the guy a couple times.

I would vote for him any day over Redford, He at least has some degree of common sense, a little on the liberal side for me but that being said he is populist and does what he says. Kinda reminds me of Klein in some ways in the way that he was somewhat of a liberal mayor who listened to people although Klein's biggest strength was he surrounded himself with good people for the job whereas Nenshi hasn't done that as much.
