Gents
I am wonder what percentage of bow hunters also participate in rifle and shotgun shooting, would it be as high as 95%? Thanks FS

I think the percentage would be quite a bit lower the other way around.

I bet it is close to 95%+. I am just about 100% archery. I usually bowhunt 90%+ of the season before I usually grab the rifle for a doe or something.

Howzit Sir...gotta get you to send me some catologs...

I would think you would have to break that down even futher ..
somewhat like ...

Bow.........80%
Rifle.........19%
Shotgun....1%

I love my bow hunting and tagged out this year with the bow ...but I also enjoy my taking my black powder and Tikka out for a walk...and since I am not much of of a migratory bird hunter any more I only hunt the grouse when availible and thats with a double barrel 410 ...

Im sure there is a bigger varity in percentage for every shooter but this would tell you more of what you wanted to know...

I like hunting both ways....I am a 50/50 guy pretty much. Shot more grouse with my bow this year than with the .22 or shotgun.

I was more successful with the rifle on big game but I had many bow opportunities that I passed up looking for bigger.

For the last 4 years I have almost been exclusively bowhunting. The only time I ever bring out one of my rifles (nothing but safe queens now) is when I go out with my father or take one of my boys out to hunt. And when I take my boys, I give the younger one the .22 for grouse, and the older one gets 308 for deer and I take my bow (but than again when my boys come out its their hunt and I'm really just a cheap guide ).

I suggest you contact the Alberta Bowhunters Association. I believe they surveyed their membership on this question. From what I heard the percentage of "crossover" hunters is very high.

This makes for a very interesting discussion considering the ABA is pushing to have Antelope, Mule Deer, Elk and Moose Archery and General weapon Draw seasons become an either/or selection.

Bison I shot this winter was the first time I have shot a big game animal with my rifle in 5 years, just been bowhunting tons. Besides coyote hunting of course, then the 22-250 comes out.

Up until this last season i was 90% rifle. Now I think it's going to be the other way. Bowhunting is very addicting.

The way your question is asked I suspect you're in the ballpark. But how much bow vs rifle/shotgun is another question. I'm 99% bow hunting. Do lots of "shooting" rifle and archery.......just not much hunting with a rifle.

From the regs (with respect to predator control and predation)......

Black Bear and Coyote*
Any person who is (a) the owner or occupant of privately owned land, or (b) authorized to keep livestock on public land, or (c) a resident authorized by a person described in (a) or a resident authorized in writing by a person described in (b) may, without a licence, hunt (but not trap) black bear or coyote on such lands, at all times of the year.

Also from the regs.....

Coyote
A Resident may, without a licence and on land to which he or she has the right of access, hunt (but not trap) coyote at all times of the year throughout the province, except as follows:
1) on public lands in the Green Area, only from October 1, 2012 to February 28, 2013, and
2) in Camp Wainwright (WMUs 728 and 730), only from January 2, 2013 to February 28, 2013.

So I would infer yes. You need to be over 18 to use a firearm though.

Default Bow 95% of the time

I hunt with traditional archery equipment 95% of the time. If I run low on time during the season I will pull out the rifle to harvest my meat doe's that I like to use for Sausage, jerky and such.

Cheers.

Primary focus is now on bowhunting but the rifle is always there as a back up for special draws, etc.

One Day you will see a guy with a bow in his left hand. A muzzle loader over one shoulder, A rifle over the other Holding a shotgun in his teeth.

Right hand must remain free to fend of Branches/Bugs/Bears/Beavers and Bats.

I would say Hello. But my mouth is full Sorry
