Sounds delicious! Crown is a decent blend but give me an Alberta Premium rye anytime!

For all you scotch drinkers, in case you didn't see it, I have donated a bottle of the Balblair 1990 Second Release to the PIF auction currently underway.

I wouldn't want anyone to miss out on a chance to bid on this fantastic whisky!

You gotta try gin in chocolate milk with a splash of Crown for spice, and nutmeg sprinkles. A Brown Crown Stain.

Bessie invented it. Says it's the best.

Bought the Johnny Walker Variety pac and a bottle of Johnny Walker double black. I think I like the double black better than the Blue Label.

I heavily favor rye rather than scotch, but tonight its a wee dram of Glenmorangie 10. Last bottle of Scottish ancestry in the cabinet, but we had a good run.

Bought my first $ 100 bottle last night at Costco. 14 yr Oban.
I am a rookie and have only tried a few 70-80 dollar bottles. The Dalmore 12 year was ok.
Maybe a test or 4 this weekend !!

Recently returned from a trip to the UK which included a few days in Edinburgh - a great city for sampling whiskies.

Some highlights:
  • Balvenie 15 Madeira - bought at duty free as well
  • Glenfiddich 18 - bought at duty free as well; can't seem to find this in Canada much anymore
  • Macallan 30 - one ounce, savored for some time; bucket list

For those curious about the Balvenie but not wanting to commit to it price-wise, if you liked the Arran Amarone finish, the Balvenie is similar, smoother, and arguably a bit more fruity.

Fighting a cold right now but felt like having a sip last night.

I landed on Bruichladdich Port Charlotte, a heavily peated single malt that I thought could be a budget alternative to one of my favorites - Lagavulin.

I remember being disappointed with the bottle when I'd bought it years ago, but something about my slightly muted taste and smell brought this one right into the slot. An enjoyable dram given the right setting.

Bought a few bottles last week at Costco. Dalwhinnie 15 year and my regular Dalmore 12 year. I am only a few years in the scotch theme but like some of the ones I have tried. Did not open the Dalwhinnie yet. Anyone have a comment on this one?
I have bought a few bottles of Dalmore so far and enjoy it.
Cheers all!!!!

It is consistently decent but it isn't mind blowing. Just an easy sipping dram... I like your regular Dalmore 12 more actually.

I often find the Dalmore better than some of the others I have bought also. And priced 20-30 bucks cheaper than what I have tried.
Thanks Bob

Agree, the Dalwhinnie is a decent sipper but the Dalmore 12 is better, and the Balvenie 12 Doublewood is better yet (also available at Costco).

Does anyone have any recommendations for big sherry or port bombs. I love scotch with that port taste. Had Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban as my last last bottle and found it to be delicious

Right on the money. Perhaps the best commonly available finished scotch. Perhaps the best pound for pound scotch period.

Just for the sake of making a list though:

*Dalmore 12 Year Sherry Cask (~$140 CAD)
*Arran Amarone Cash Finish (~$90 CAD); also come in Sherry and Port finishes
*Balvenie 15 Year Madeira (~$200+ CAD, but rare in North America), Balvenie Doublewood is little brother of it

Now, having praised the Auch 3 Wood, I'm going to say that I have come to really prefer the Glengoyne Cask Strength. Not as sweet, but man, so very good. About $90, but it is bottled at cask, so a bargain in my books. Now I may have to pour one to watch the Flames game. To dull the pain...

Where the blazes did you find that?!? I can't recall the last time I saw a Glengoyne of any description on the shelf...

My local Pusher (Vintage Wine & Spirits) always has good selection. I really want a bottle of the 25 year but that is serious coin. I tried it a a friend's place, it's in my Top 5. The Cask is marvelous though. There is an empty bottle in the Sheep Creek patrol cabin in the Wilmore. Now you know who left it there.

Balvenie is always solid. Their 14 year rum cask is really good too, the 17 year is fabulous and the 21 Port Wood...oh my. But getting very pricey.
