Default Another help me decide thread #59234

So I've decided on a Tikka T3, but I keep changing my mind on a caliber. I've been tossing up a .270WSM and a 30.06 for awhile now. My brother killed his antelope last year at 300 yards with a .300 win mag but bought a .270WSM for this year to go antelope hunting with. And just talking to a buddy of mine he suggested a 7MM-08 and I've heard that before but never really paid attention to them or know anything about it.

What I'm kind of looking for is what others would prefer for anything from Antelope all the way upto moose? I wouldn't be comfortable shooting past 300 yards myself.

Default Tika T3 270WSM

I'd personally go for the 270SM with 140gr Accubonds. Have have 2 of these in the LS models. Great caliber/rifles. Awesome performance on elk, moose, deer and bears at various distances. I too mainly shoot my Sako m75ss 300WM but the performance at the range and on big game with the 270WSM over the past couple years has made me a believer!

I'd say if you're going T-3 you might as well stay with a long action, and from the shooting you described in no particular order, 30-06,7 Rem mag, 270,300 Win mag. I don't see any worthwile advantage to a short mag on a long action, but I know Tikka sells alot of them.
