I received a call from a friend that my cabin had been broken into. So my partner and I went to check it out. Found the lock cut and door knob broken. Various items stolen and everything riffled through. It seems like they had cased it out or came back with tools to take the propane stove. They left some things that I thought would have been gone but took smaller things. We emptied the cabin for now but my question to you guys is have you been broke into and what did you do to keep it from happening again or steps you've taken to protect your stuff?

Sorry to hear about your break-in. A locked door should keep the majority of hikers/hunters out of your cabin, but I can't think of anything you can do if SCUM preplan and bring tools to break-in.
even if you have cameras set up it's likely they will steal or damage them.

Sorry to hear that Jay I have been worried about my cabin getting broke into not sure there is anything you can do, its to bad there is garbage like that out there we need to worry about. I try to only leave stuff that I won't miss if a scumball breaks in. I have been trying to find some kind of trail cam that can be hid a little better than your regular ones.

I have signs at mine that warn of the trail cameras and how it takes a pic and sends it right to my computer when taken. If you got cell service then it might be an option to get a system like that. I know it won't stop the theft but at least you will hav instant pictures of the people and you might catch them.
This is a huge worry of mine as well and I am always thinking of ways around getting broke into. Other than leaving things unlocked which I don't agree with I don't think you could keep anyone out if they wanted in. Kinda sucks when it is so close tot he season and especially when it costs a good $$ for things that you need in the cabin.

Wolfcrazy, what area was your line/cabin located? It may help some of us to be more vigilant and remove some more valuable stuff if they Scum appear to be working a certain WMU.

Sorry for the loss, I haven't had a problem yet like yours but maybe bolting a job box inside of it with two locks on it to keep valuables safe for when the un honest come by.

Some places are worse than others.I have never had any problem at my cabin in the 30 years I have been on this line.It is pretty remote though.And I know the few guys that fish and hunt way back in there.
At a line near the Quebec border one guy came out to the road after being at camp fishing for a few days,and his car was flipped on its roof and the transmission was gone.

Our cabin is south of Valleyview. We haven't had any issues other then someone taking all our wood once. Seemed like when a rig in the area left our wood also left. Well the cameras are up again and along a couple of roads access roads.

Someone knows something so one day it might get out.
