Unfortunately, it's the stupid people that know nothing about family planning, and only having as many children as they can support.

The problem with idiot proofing everything, is the evolution of the idiot. In a genetics class, I actually learned that experts believe humans are de-evolving genetically as a race. The smartest, fittest, genetically strong people tend to be very career orientated, and do not reproduce. Whereas the "less gifted" tend to be the ones who have 5 kids.... Also due to medical advances, genetic defects that would once be "filtered out", are now able to make their way through the system, and being passed on at a greater rate. *cough cough*, our PM for example.....

I suspect the anthropocene will be one of the planets shorter lived epochs. It took a comet to wipe out the dinosaurs; humans got so smart so fast, that we’re wiping ourselves out - and taking a whole bunch of other species with us.

Frankly, I hope it happens before we infest the rest of the galaxy. No innocent planet deserves what we’d bring.

We had another saying at work, "there is no point trying to idiot proof everything, they will just create a better idiot".

I agree. Mendel's laws of genetics are not popular when applied to humans but it works exactly the same in humans as it does with Labradors. It doesn't take very many generations for the effects to clearly show up.

Humans can be trained, just like Labrador, maybe easier.

The view from 1951, one of my favorite stories... I'll not mention the title, I don't want to trigger anyone who possesses modern sensibilities
