Default Going Bluefin Tuna fishing...

....out of Hobart, Tasmania!

I had one of those days at work today where I was just tired of the 'same old, same old' looking out the window at the crappy winter weather, and sanding drywall. Bad mix..

My middle and youngest daughter booked flights in April to go to Australia for a couple weeks, and I've been threatening to go along. I've got a really good friend outside of Sydney, haven't seen him or his kids for 15 years, and he was going to look out for my girls, but also trying to coerce me to come along. Today he sent me links about the Whisky Trail in Tasmania, and fishing....I folded! Came home, cleaned up, went down to the local Flight Center and booked a business class flight, going from April 4th to April 23...now that I've given in, I feel so relieved!

My friend Matt is busily planning trips for us to Taronga zoo, Blue Hills for camping, spear fishing, maybe wild boar hunting, and the aforementioned trip by ferry to Tasmania! Should be awesome.

I may need to sell a few guns!

BTW, anybody fish out of Hobart? Any advice? Bluefin is a 'bucket list' fish for me, I was already looking at booking a charter out of Nova Scotia for this summer. Hobart sounds better! Just because...really excited about doing something impulsive. Not really me (other than buying guns I suppose)...but a trip I've often thought of doing.

Very Nice --- We were out that way 4 years ago and the days I had set aside for fishing the weather did not cooperate. I certainly wish you get fair seas. Stunning scenery and very nice people.

Have fun and good luck.

Now you tell me...!

Already booked, Edmonton-Vancouver-Sydney, and same way home. The weird thing is I leave Syndey at 10:10 AM on the morning of the 23rd, and arrive in vancouver at 7:30 AM on the morning of the 23rd...so I land 2 hours and 40 minutes before I leave. Time travel....awwwwesome!

If they are tougher than marlin or sailfish...I will pray I hook up!! Those are awesome fighters too! I've been lucky to land one of each of those.

Wow man!! That sounds like a trip of a lifetime! I am super jealous! Make certain you have a special bottle in tow to enjoy after (or during) some of the finer moments...

That would cover it...but suspect you need a commercial license to sell, not a sport fishing license. All the same, that would be cool to land a fish like that! I would probably open that bottle of 25 year old Macallan, and shoot the Alberta Python after that!!!maybe at the same time!

Absolutely. Still trying to decide, but leaning towards the ten year old octomore...will be taking lots of pictures and sharing them with friends.

I've spent thousands on 50/50 to support minor hockey at my son's games over the years. Never won once. Now I'm supposed to find a big gold nugget?

Why not?

Dang TC, that’s freakin’ awesome buddy! Seriously hoping your trip goes better than you could have dreamed.

Bluefin are a special critter. I originally hail from the land of the true giants in NS. Pic is from an old friend back home from a season or so ago. 850# + if I recall.

Have a fantastic trip and good luck!

Default Bluefin fishin'

Once you've got the fishing end of your trip done make a bee line to Barnbougle Dunes and play 2 of the best golf courses (The Dunes & Lost Farm)in Australia. Straight north of Hobart & east of the town of Bridport.

Congratulations!! That sounds like a blast! I'm off to Cook Islands next month for some diving, fly fishing, deep sea fishing and as much (very) fresh ahi sushimi that I can eat.

Good choice on the business class!

That sounds like a blast too! And yes, on a flight that long, riding Cattle Class seemed like a good way to die of deep vein thrombosis somewhere over the Pacific. Why ruin a poor flight attendant's day doing that, right? Business Class is a real luxury for me, but it was the only way I was going to do it.

Business is the best way by far when crossing the pond. I've gotten great deals by booking months ahead. If you're by yourself, it's easier as you can go up to the counter at some airlines and pay a nominal fee to upgrade and fill any empty seats. Paid an extra $700 each way to upgrade on Air Canada to Norway last year which is way lower than buying the actual ticket. Other airlines let you bid for the seats and around $500 usually lands one. The pods with lay flat beds are hard to beat. Have fun!
