Sturgeon Guides
I am wanting to take my boy fishing for the big dinosaurs in BC for a grad present. I have never gone and am looking for some suggestions on who I should book with.
I am hoping that with some suggestions on here a couple outfits would stand out and I can look into those.

River Monster Adventures. I live on a boat on the Fraser and see these guys close by all the time and they sure seem to be doing great. It seems that the best success is close to the Mission Bridge ,up/down stream 4-5 miles

This was on our bucket list and would highly recommend cascade fishing adventures, three nights accommodation, two days on the water was what we booked and I tell ya right now bent rods and sore arms, you can't go wrong with this outfit, second to none, period!
One of nine caught on this trip....

I used Cascade a few years ago in August. We caught two fish, both around 6-6.5 ft. He was professional and his boat and equipment were good. It wasn't hot and heavy, but I think that had more to do with the time of year than anything.

I've done it out of my kayak 3 times now. My biggest so far is 7' 6". The one I posted earlier is my biggest from a boat at 8'. So far the largest I know of being caught out of a kayak is 8' 3", I would like to beat that and would like to break 9' although I imagine that would be a struggle.

Now you got my interest there RavYak, how long was the fight? Provide a story please cuz I know what we were up against was a battle from a boat let alone a kayak.

On the small to decent size fish it is similar to fighting them out of a boat except sitting in a kayak instead of standing at the back of a boat. Main difference is we stick to slower water in order to make anchoring easier/safer and also so that the current doesn't give the fish too much advantage. We use a big anchor and buckle down the drag as much as comfortable with in order to try and fight the fish while staying on anchor. My drag is set stronger then a lot of guides reels and I will thumb it if needed too. So far we have landed a few 6-7 foot fish this way and my 7'6.
One of these days I am going to catch a bigger one that makes me come off anchor and that is when things are going to get interesting. When that happens just like with a boat the goal will be to get close to the fish and keep steady pressure on it and try to keep it away from obstacles. My kayak is pedal drive and also has reverse which is the only type of kayak I would consider for sturgeon fishing like this since it allows me to put significant pressure on the fish and to try and pull or steer it away from snags and other boats etc. Next time I am out I am going to fight a decent one(6-7 footer) off anchor to practice those techniques. Then if everything goes good I'll have to put in the time to try and get a bigger one.
