WTH is going on with all the slow fishing in lakes that typically produce steady catch days?

We were in 8 FOW at Sandy Point on Sat. Saw several very nice burbs and a couple of pike as they checked out our hooks. None of them were interested.
I heard that the group out in 20 FOW were having luck with whites on wire worms.
There was hundreds of people out on Saturday especially over at Brownlows.
All I could hear was the roar of augers all day long. The way I see it is the constant drilling of holes has got to scare off the fish.

Actually they don’t seem to mind.
I had a pike staring at my bait and someone fired up a auger pretty close to us and it didn’t bother him.

Burb spawn at brownlows will start pretty soon, and you will have your whites in 20 FOW. Just bang a wedding bell off the bottom and hold for a few minutes then repeat.

Wedding Bell, Thumper, Bottom Banger ....
This is something they sell at the tackle shops in Red Deer. Made locally in Red Deer.
Basically, it is the pull cord weight for a Venetian Blind, slightly drilled out. A Treble Hook is then pushed through and set with solder.
It looks like a bell, and some are painted chartreuse, some are silver, some are gold.
Standard NATO issue armament for whitefish at Gull.

It's been horribly slow at gull thus far this season, and we have been all over our usual haunts...
Beats workin though..

I concur. All the proven spots are a waste of time...seeing and not catching is one thing but the north end is a ghost town. I've seen a few but very few. Waters nice and clear. Lots of dinky perch after 12pm that just sit on the bottom all relaxed and stuff. That says the whites aren't in the area, above them, that makes the little perch nervous.

It has been much slower than usual, so has Pine this year. I do wonder though as I have a friend who fishes year round out there and caught 3 carp in the lake last summer.
