Alberta NDP to get rid of Daylight. Savings?
They truly think they can do whatever the hell they want.
http://www.edmontonsun.com/2016/12/1...-put-to-a-vote
They won't even hold a referendum
Hoffman actually says, that people complain to her about losing sleep and affecting kids sleeping patterns and health and wellness.
Ok then I think we should all start complaining to her about the carbon tax.
Maybe that is the key to getting Sh*t done.
And it has to be young families.
Or are they the ones with unprecedented wealth these days and don't care about how much they spend.

Me neither. Especially with 4 young kids on somewhat of a sleep schedule. Completely destroys us for about a week. No need for it at all.
I find it interesting they were mentioning what time some we would land in. Haven't thought about it too much as to where I personally would like to see us in.
But honestly cant stand changing clocks

Yes I did.
And unlike some people I can admit that, and that it was without a doubt a mistake.

If everybody in both countries abolishes DLST it would work just fine, however Saskatchewan not changing creates problems for business and its a lot more noticeable if the whole world changes and you don't.
The most noticeable is your TV schedule changes, the friends and family you normally phone at certain times need to be changed.
I was in Regina this morning at 9 AM it was still dark, I remember working construction and waiting for light to start work lots of hours wasted.

I'm no scientist, but I'm pretty sure there's the same number of hours of daylight.

So during the winter construction should start at 9 am to 6pm ?
change the hours of work instead of the time?

Yes
If you want to work in the light, work in the light.
Lots of places have winter hours and summer hours.
I don't think that's a stretch at all.

Working in construction from 9AM to 6PM is ridiculous. However, working from 9AM to 6PM and calling it 8AM and 5PM is perfectly acceptable.
DST is an absolute waste. I grew up in the old country. I never heard a single individual complain about when they felt the sun should rise.

It is entirely inconsequential. Glad they have the time and money to mess around with these things. I can't even imagine how much money these clowns will fritter away on this meaningless "problem".
Somehow I have managed to live half my life in Saskatchewan and the other half plus in Alberta. Didn't make a bit of difference in my life DLS or not.
In Saskatchewan we worked under the sun, and when it went down we worked under lights. Same damn thing in Alberta.

One more testament to human arrogance! "We will change time!"
What I would rather see is daylight savings all the time. And why would anyone in construction or any other job have to wait for daylight? Lights have never been better. I have never worked a job that waits for the sun to come up. You just go and do it.

Why not? When going to work in sask you have to adjust.
If you're going to argue that it's ridiculous to change the hours you work to work in the light I'm going to say that I agree with you .... that's why I want to get rid of dlst

Hmm, kind of torn on this.
Personally I and probably many other people would like the change. A guy has to wake up in the dark either way so might as well have a bit of light left at the end of the day.
I do see the argument for the people that rely on the sunlight to do their work(construction workers etc) though and switching it either means they work later into the day, work an hour less or work in the dark for an hour.

I don't know many construction workers that work 8 hour days. Most would be working before the sun comes up and work after the sun goes down. What time that happens has no bearing on anything.

If you want to get rid of DST you want the sun to rise at 0404 hours in Edmonton on the 20th of Jun. Who wants sunup at that time in the morning? You guys nuts? I want to be sound asleep at that time.....not cowering from the sun lol

If there's people out there who will vote for someone based solely on gun control stance then be aware this is a far large audience.
I'm all for getting rid if dlst it's not needed in today's age.

Thank you for giving us all the perspective from a province that has abolished DST. It affects so much more then just sleep.

I certainly can, but what is amazing to me is that it has been a fairly civil discussion - I am actually enjoying reading this thread !

Alberta NDP to get rid of Daylight. Savings?
It's called "Daylight SAVINGS". I wonder why? Nearly every developed country in the world and the entire western world uses it. Hmmm (BTW you don't need DST near the equator, or if the majority of your populous doesn't own or need a clock).
Does the NDP think their just smarter than the rest of the continent? Is this really what they deem important government work, in this economy?
I don't know why DST is hard to wrap your head around. The earth is tilted and the amount of daylight varies significantly throughout the year, if like we all do, maintain a consistent hourly schedule. Nuff said? I'd think the only people against DST would be vampires.
We've all managed quite fine for decades.
Maybe the NDP just wants to keep us in the dark, but doesn't understand it's a metaphor.

Daylight savings used to be important when everyone worked outside and relied on the sunlight to do their work. It was used so people could follow strict time schedules and make the most of the sunlight.
It is becoming less important now because most work is now done indoors and because of technology for outdoor lighting.
Not that hard to understand why it was developed and also why we and others are now considering moving away from it. Like other old technology it is losing its value.
