Let’s see your Model 70’s
Doing a nostalgia build on a m70 action. Looking for a little inspiration and was hoping to see what guys have built on the old classic!

How's this for inspiration?
OK, so it's not a real Model 70. But hey....the action is derived from a Model 70.

I am. The one on the stainless action is the compact. The other two are Echols pattern McMillans

Left hand Winchester model 70?
Not to derail this thread but can someone tell me which years Winchester manufactured left hand model 70s?! Google isn’t being much help to me.

^ Not sure about the validity of this info, but on another forum someone posted the following:
AFAIK - LH Model 70's were available in at least 10 different versions over the years.
Left hand Model 70's were introduced in 1997 in the somewhat earlier Classic Sporter, the Classic Sporter BOSS & Classic Sporter Stainless - all on standard production (non-Custom Shop) lines.
The LH option also became available in the Featherweight Classic WSM standard production (non-Custom Shop) line in 2003.
The Custom Shop made LH M-70's in the Classic Custom African & Safari Express (2000-2006 - not in .470 Capstick), Custom Ultimate Classic (1997 intro), Classic Custom Short Action (2001 intro), Custom Extreme Weather (2000-2005) & Extreme Lightweight Weather II (2006) on the Custom Shop production line.

That is PT&G aluminum bottom metal. It is horrible actually. It dumps rounds upon pulling the trigger about 50% of the time. So, I just had Mitch Kendall convert it to a blind magazine. I should have it back this afternoon and I’ll snap a photo of it for comparison.

The right one here is Williams bottom metal and the left Blackburn. Neither is made anymore. But the Blackburn is a very good product.

I follow Chad Dixon from LRI rifles in Sturgis, who in my opinion has to be one of the best smiths in the country, and he was making a bottom metal for a model 70 that he was going to market. One for a detach mag and one version for a floor plate. Definitely the nicest setup I’ve seen and you didn’t have to mill your action out to accommodate it.
Right now looks like sunnyhill is the only decent option, just with a fine price tag.

Chuck, did those McMillans come painted or did you finish them? Reason for asking, I just ordered a Wildcat stock for my sons rifle and I am going to finish it myself.

Mitch Kendall painted the green with speckles and McMillan painted the other two.

Pardon my ignorance....how does one post pictures? I've got a beauty to share.
1952 model 70 in birds eye maple stock. One owner!
Cheers
