Default Further discussion on barrel harmonics , etc

This is a bit of a thread drift from the stock bedding thread so II decided instead of derailing it, to start another thread.
years ago, when Shortmags.ORG was on the go, there was a thread barrel harmonics and pressure points.
I posted about how my father showed me how to put an action in a vice with wires on the barrel and tap it with a mallet, and the wires would migrate to node points where you could put a pressure point.
I was almost laughed off the site!
Imagine my surprise ( and satisfaction) when I was on another forum recently and discovered this link on the very same thing!
many "new" shooters- those that have 25 years or less, often think that nothing existed before the internet and chassis tactical rifles, but sometimes old school techniques still work and are still used - along with some VOODOO
dead chickens and cigar smoke in the middle of the night

Oh, it works alright!
I plan on trying the talcum powder way though, I always used wires because most of the rifles I was dealing with were round barrels, My Spaghettis Sharps has an octagon barrel however.

Neet find.

I have been reading a lot of info about barrel harmonics, more on the 22 LR, but realize that any barrel will have it.

And that is why we have today a large influx of tuners for the barrels. They mitigate the harmonics by adding the weight up front and tuning it into the sweet spot.

Started playing with one on the 10/22, and have seen the benefits of it.

Haven't looked at Texas Mac's stuff in a long time, one of those folks that knows pretty much whatever you need to know about the modern versions of the 1885 and some other related items. Nice to see he is still out there.
