Default Registering a non registered firearm question.

Lets say hypotheticaly I have a friend who has a friend who bought a camper 6 or 7 years ago, in that camper was an old single shot shotgun that the seller was not sure of the origins (buys and sells alot of crap, didnt even know it was there untill the guy who bought the camper found it). Now that friend of a friend is thinking about registering that shotgun. Would anyone recomend this course of action or would it be wiser to toss that gun into a slough and forget about it. It doesnt seem like the sort of gun that would have been used in a crime but ya never know. Could this land a guy in some serious trouble?

Nope.

Just take barrel measurements, gauge and shell size (2 3/4 or 3") and the make model and serial number and call the CFC at 1-800-731-4000 and follow the prompts to "register a firearm". If they ask, tell them you bought a camper and the old shotgun was in there. If it comes up as previously registered they will tell you and then you can take it to the local RCMP and have them destroy it.

No big deal. The RCMP can run the serial number, get the previous owners name, attach that to the destruction paperwork and that's all there is to it.

You have a PAL right???? So if you do, you can legally possess that firearm regardless.

if you did have to send it to be destroyed, pull the barrel and stocks...give them only the receiver, that's the only part considered a firearm.

I commend you on only considering two options. SOME of us would have considered a third.

Lol that third option has been in practice since the camper was purchased.
