Default Reloading for a Savage 99C, where to start?

So after restoring my father in laws Savage I thought I might start reloading for it. I have a decent supply of 165gr Sierra GK and some 180 gr Winchester soft points. I would just like to work him up a decently accurate hunting loads. Mostly for deer, maybe he might get a moose draw a few years.

Any thoughts on bullets, or loads to start with or stay away from. I have had good results in my Axis with the Sierras.

Let me know what you come up with. I'm looking at getting into reloading in the future and would love to know.

FWIW, I've had real good success with Federal Fusion 165 grain ammo. I put a 3 round grouping at 100 yards last October you could cover with a quarter and made a nice double lung shot on a great whitetail buck in November at 500 yards. It doesn't hurt I put a good quality scope on that gun last year just before doing all this....but I couldn't have without ammo that worked well in my firearm.

That ammo is not only very accurate in my 99C, but it's got a real good price too.

Yeah I guess that would help hey.

It is a 308 Win, I have some Varget, H4895 and IMR 4320.

Anyone know what bullets Fusions are, I think I remember someone saying Speer something or other at one time?

I would start with a set of small base dies, you may be able to get regular ones to work if you have them. Small base dies are recommended for lever, semi-auto, and pump rifles.

This sounds like a plan! So you figure 85% of max, even if it is below the Min?

Thanks!

Used to try IMR3031 in my 308 & had nothing but pressure problems. Switched to rl15 with 165 grain partitions & load to book max with zero pressure signs. The problem these days would be to get rl15.
