Default Carp.....****

20200805_081821.jpg

Out for a rip this am on the adv bike....
Canals to Grassy, then Rattlesnake and Klaudts.
Found this big carp laying along canal south of the Hat.....22" long about and 9 " wide.
I didnt think they were that big here....but hes a chunky Guy. our fishery is in big trouble.
Boat launch at Grassy was chained.....algae issue
Dead whitefish floating here n there at Klaudts....
Sigh

Wow, yes that is a large one. All the ones I've caught in RDR were maybe about half as big as that one.

I haven't fished the RDR yet this year so haven't had the pleasure yet of killing one.

I could be completely out to lunch but that doesn't look so carpish to me. sorry looking at a small screen, looks like a bloated mooneye or whitefish? im looking at eye placement and the size of tail. ive been wrong before so wouldn't surprise me. also not familiar with the area

Hard to say because of the decomposition, but this doesn't look like a Prussian carp to me. Almost looks more like a bloated whitefish, or even a quillback.

My money's on a whitefish. You can clearly see the adipose fin near the tail. Goldeye and mooneye do not have adipose fins and their dorsal fins are much further back. Prussian carp does not have an adipose fin, and there are too many scales along the lateral line for a carp.

What you guys are seeing as an adipose fin I think is actually a rock under that monster.
Definitely a carp, no doubt.

Lake whitefish. Nothing on that fish resembles a prussian carp or any carp.

Comparing pics of Prussian carp to the pic in this thread it doesn’t look like a Prussian carp but I am no expert

Not a prussian carp. Their dorsal fin is much longer and shape of tail fin is wrong too. This is either whitefish or quilback.

It was Definitely "not" a whitefish....I just ate one last week.
I can get behind the quillback tho...would account for its size compared to most Prussian carp.
