Default Top lot?

So was anyone lucky enough to get a top lot for this auction? As much as I had hoped I was not. I do have one in the second lot so I'm happy enough with that!

Best of luck to all who have fur in this auction!

I thought that top lot wasn't decided until the auction? Only 2 of my 30 furs are listed, not sure why the rest isnt

Typically the first lot ends up being the top lot. There have been exceptions though.

Are your missing furs all one species? Perhaps they haven't been lotted yet. I would be calling if they don't show up by tomorrow!

Got 2 beaver and my coyotes up is all. Coyote grades look decent I think so I hope the price does well. I have noticed in the last few auctions of what color of coyotes I have and it seems like I have a lot of Darker colors so I won't expect to keep up to average prices but I think If I average $110 this sale I will be happy. I have a handful of Damaged 1's and 2's in there to bring my average down.

Yup, I have a top lot......in squirrels.

My highest coyote is in the 10th lot and fox in lot 12.

Me as well but I never had that grade before and I'm having a hard time finding a description on the NAFA site. Does anyone have it and does anyone know what DG1 and DG2 1-4 AVG went for on the last auction. I'm trying to determine what my average might be.

Top lot is top lot Dave!

Nube I've got coyotes spread all over the lots. I seem to catch a wide variety of colours and qualities. Mine are from 157942 down to 158265

If I remember correctly I sold Dg1 for 48 last auction. I'm not home so I can't check my receipt.

Good! I know I would be in panic mode if my fur went missing!

Thanks, someone may have the info handy. In the mean time I'll use $40 for DG1 and $30 for DG2. That sounds reasonable I think.

I have 1 coyote right at the bottom of my list that graded II AVG with nothing for colour (ie. MED 1-4). Anyone know what's up with that?

Looks like I have 5 top lot ermine...I have a fox also that is SEL* 1-2, but a MED (color), XXD's usually get the top lot. Really happy with my Coyote grades, only have half a dozen II's, and one DG3, it was a little mangy (should have tossed that one). All my other dogs are graded either I* or I-II, should be a good sale. No listings yet for Squirrel, Fisher, Lynx, Otter, Beaver, Muskrat, Marten, or Mink on my account.

Spruce, I have some coyotes graded as II's. Is this a fur handling problem or a just poorer quality fur?

Can be either. Rougher course furred older dogs will almost always go as II's. Stiff under fleshed will go as II's or damaged. If you miss a big patch or the rump I would say you are 50/50 between a I-II and a II depending on fur quality...but never a I* or SEL*. Judging by your grades last sale your fur handling is quite good!

My biggest fur handling problem for this auction was thawing frozen coyotes. I suspect some of my II grades were caused by this. The legs thaw very quickly but the bodies are much slower. This is something I need to work on next year. Since I heat my fur shed with a wood stove the temperature is difficult to regulate. I'm considering building a small shed strictly for thawing coyotes and heating it with a small furnace.

Wrap the coyotes in a tensor, takes away the furs ability to hold in the cold. They will thaw twice as fast this way, very little green belly this way.

Any theories on this one? I had one in this auction with no head but great fur. I wonder if that's the one.

Dave.
Last sale
Damage 2 med 1-4 ave $58.28
Damage 2 dk-dbr 1-4 ave $58.28
Damage 3 1-4 PR $24.80

Those are what I had last sale.

Colour is what I am finding to be the most important thing in getting decent prices.
I know it is easy to toss a coyote that is rubbed a bit but as you can see if they are not that bad I would still skin them for the $58 you can get but that's just me. Like Tork said , Iam a cheap person lol

Thanks Nube. As soon as I see DG I flinch. $50 or $60 isn't all that bad I guess.

I know guys use a water trough full of cold water to thaw out wolves. Half hour or so dunk and the first inch or so of skin/meat is thawed out but the core is still frozen solid. I imagine this would work for yotes too.

This seems like a good idea as well. I don't wash coyotes anymore so getting them wet would be a drawback. It would be worth it to turn out better quality though.

I did try some tensor bandages later in the season and it made a big difference as well. I will try a few things next year and see what works for me.

There may be some to come? Seems like most guys have their coyotes lotted though.

If you can see your name on the lower left of the page click on the arrow and a drop down menu opens up. You will then see more links.

Mike, being that your account is new it may take longer for your "Current Lotting Letter" portion to show up. Someone else pm'd me with the same issue.

Is your "Current Receipts" with all of your fur showing on your account?

Didn't get a top lot, but not to far off...
On my 4 Fisher I got *sel for 2 of them and *1 for the other 2...
For the 8 Marten I had *sel for 1 of them, *1 for 5 of them, and 1-11 for the last two...quite pleased, hope the suction sells well, good luck to all trappers and their goods...!!!
