Default Log building supply store

I was wondering if anyone knows of a building supply store in Edmonton(& area) that specializes in tools for log/timber home building. I saw a store in Edmonton years ago but cannot remember the name or location. I am looking for 24" to 36" auger bits and other sanding/log prep equipment. I am not interested in the mail order or any of stores not located in the Edmonton area.

Lee Valley will have good chisels and framing slicks. If you want some power tools such as a circular saw with a huge blade or a chain mortiser then there is KMS tools. I saw a monster Makita 16 5/16” blade circular saw last week at the Calgary KMS location. Online you will find options for the hand tools such as Rockler and others. Don’t forget to use ‘arborist’ in your search terms, lots of arborist supply outfits have tools that cross over to timber framing.

Baileysonline is one arborist supplier tha comes to mind, another whose name escapes me would come up but I can’t seem to locate it.

Again, already tried them, and they have nothing that is close to what I am needing for length of spade drills/auger bits.

For auger bits what diameter? Milwaukee and others make auger bit extensions that have a quick-connect feature so you can make a bit as long as you want. They have extensions in 6", 12", 18" and possibly more (that's what I have). So long as your desired hole is wider than the quick connect you're good. I have older extensions as well that don't have the quick connect, instead they have the female hex to mate to the bit and one or two Allen key set screws. Those don't have the quick connect convenience but they are also a smaller diameter so they will fit through a smaller bore. I used that set up with an auger bit to bore holes through about 20" + of stacked 4" X 6" and 6" X 6" landscape timbers. I pounded 1/2" galvanized pipe through the hole to fasten them all together.

Are you building the house with Redwoods ? Why would you need anything longer than say an 18" or 24" bit ?

WoodOwl or Greenlee makes long auger bits, you can find them on Amazon.ca too. But Linestar is a Canadian distributor.
