Default Garage door openers - CHAIN OR BELT?

Looking at installing new garage door openers at my house and was wondering what the best long term decision is?

I know that the belt option is quieter but I hear they are a pain if the belt ever needs replacement.

I know that the chain will be louder but will last longer.

Let me know your thoughts.

Steve

going on 6 years and never a problem with the belt....It also depends on what may be on the 2nd foor over the garage. Our bedroom is over and thank god we got the belt opener...

Default Jack-Shaft

Had a LifeMaster 8500 installed, WiFi-open with your cell phone, battery backup option and quiet..no vibrations. 2 years in operation no issues.

I prefer belt driven with the master bedroom above the garage.

Yup, I should have gone that route as well, but didn't think it through. Thinking of upgrading here soon.

I went from Chain to belt about 6 months ago and I cant believe I kept the chain for so long. The belt is whisper quiet, and just plain works better.

Five years here now and no issues other than a squeaky hinge or wheel that needs a blast of graphite extreme on occasion.

+2 ^^
Liftmaster side mount... space saver and quiet. The only thing to be careful with is over sized doors.

If you want to put a car lift in your garage the Liftmaster side mount opener and a high track system provide far better clearance. Also, the side lifts are REALLY quiet, even better than the belt drive Liftmaster 8500 that was there before. If I ever build another new house, all the garage doors will have side mount openers and high lift track systems.

After

Pretty tight voting.

I love the sidemount idea just too expensive in price.

If I ever want to change it would be easy
