Default Painting a gun

Looking to paint a gun of mine in some kind of flat colour, just wondering what kind of paint and do's and dont's to keep in mind. I guess to get a pattern on it just make some kind of cut out and then lay it over the base colour??? Any info would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

I have painted wood, fiberglass, and barrels with Dura-coat paints. I bought mine at Black Cat in St. Albert, I think there are about 90 colors to choose from. It is a tad expensive, but worth every penny.

Just curious, what would you estimate it cost to duracoat your gun? How many coats did you do, and how much time do you guess you put into the process?

thanks!

Default Gun Painting

Painting guns is fun and relatively easy. IMHO a black synthetic stock looks much better with a fresh coat of Krylon.
I've used Flat Krylon camo paints, and, I've also used Krylon's sand textured paints, which leaves a very nice textured feel to your gun.
Here's my latest paint job on my coyote rig.

Best paint jobs I've seen are done with an air brush and stencils. We've used Armacoat which I believe is the same as Duracoat. Super tough, won't scratch off or chip. It can be found at TSE in Calgary or ordered from armacoat.net out of Edmonton. The guys at armacoat.net will paint it for you for a price, or at least they used to.

Thanks for the kudos Shortmag. I started by removing the action from the stock. Then I cleaned the stock with water and vinegar. TSP also works great. I hung the gun by fishing line tied to the inside of the stock. I put 3 coats of Krylon make it Stone Paint(available at Canadian Tire), White Onyx was the colour I chose. Next, I created a paw print stencil from a cereal box, just google search coyote track, print it and then trace onto cereal box. Paint your stencil on. Couple coats of clear coat and you're off to the races.
Fun and easy; a diffferent looking gun is always a good conversation piece.
