What is the largest caliber you have fired? Recoil is quite a bit more than the .30/06 and very close to the .338Win
If you go with a muzzle brake, then the only issue is noise

Been there, done that. Total overkill for .30 IMHO. Seriously an '06 or 300 Win Mag or 300WSM is more than enough in a .30 cal. If you need more then look at .338 or .35. For the moderate increase in velocity the cost of factory ammo or the amount of powder you burn really dosen't make it worthwhile. And yes it hammered the hell out of me , more than my .375 H&H, infact shooting my buddies .416 Weatherby was more pleasent.

got one love it wouldnt trade it for any thing. good long range gun recoil is not to bad depending on size of person and shooting back ground I would say. I got mine in a 700xcr I did put a break on it that so I could shoot it better. Had trouble at the start with it breaking the rings ended up going to double dove tails 300 rounds later no trouble yet.

Default 300 Rum

I've got a 338 RUM 700 LSS it does kick but not so much that I don't want to shoot it I put about 150-200 rounds a year through it & my shoulder is a little sore the next day but it is also sore after a goose hunt. Just part of hunting if you ask me. I put a down payment on a 300 RUM sendero II last week & I'm currently waiting for the scope & ring then I'll be off to go pick it up & start working on loads for it. I Guess they must not kick that bad or I wouldn't be getting a 300 after shooting my 338.

I have two 300 RUM's - a heavy barrel with muzzle brake and a lightweight rig with no brake. Guess which one I shoot all the time, and which one I hunt with ? In either case, the more I shoot either of these RUM's, the less the recoil bothers me, and the more I believe this may be the ultimate in big game cartridges. I love it, but it ain't for recoil shy folk.....

My Brother has one. It is in the Sendero Heavy Barrel. And the recoil is not bad. I thought it would be worse. I figured it was only a bit worse then My 300 short mag.

I have hunted with 300RUM's for the last 4 years, and a great caliber in my opinion. Necessary, no, but since when has that ever stopped anyone?
Recoil is felt, but not as bad as the reputation that seems to be hung on this cartridge....and with that I might add, that the majority of people who made a negative comment on the recoil I spoke with prior to / after owning one, had never even shot the caliber themselves.
Best advice, find someone that owns one and put a box through it. If that's not an option, then as mentioned, buy a blued SPS and try it out. You can always upgrade the gun from there if you choose.

I have taken nine elk and two moose with my 300 ultramags.Recoil is significant, but I can shoot my unbraked ultramags as accurately as any of my other rifles.

I have a 300RUM
its in a Remington model 700 sedero
it weighs about 12 pounds
i reload my own shells a tad hotter than factory loads
it gives about 38.5 pounds of recoil on the shoulder
a lighter gun will more recoil
if that helps ya to decide on buying one
i dont usemine anymore because of a heart condition might be interested in parting wth it for the rt price
