Default my new .22

tax return time...wooohoo..new toys

marlin mod 60 stainless/laminate

first few shots out of the box 35 yards standing, no scope no adjustment on the sights

after adjustment and at 20 yards. no scope...standing

so far i am loving this gun. no jams yet...smooth right out of the box. can't wait to shoot it again. i got to take my niece and nephew out tonight (10 and 7) to shoot their first .22 both had a blast and did very well.

That is fine shooting for iron sights and off hand Clash.

You will probably even tighten that up a bit once you find out what your gun likes to eat!

Nice gun.

Wish I would have thought of this when the Liberals were in Ottawa. Send them a thankyou letter for sending you out your "new gun tax return".

To tell the truth I am not too impressed with the target pics. Shooting standing up, is it your ability or the guns accuracy that is being "tested"?

well as i am using the gun mostly for shooting gophers/rabbits and such..and they usually don't hang around so i can lay or sit down and get a table out..put a gun rest on it and then shoot them..i figured shooting standing up from a "usual" gopher distance...was a far better measure of how me and the gun would function together...sorry i did not impress you???...

Ya that is just the way I is. I just can't help being honest and saying what I mean. And if you feel insulted when someone makes a simple honest observation, I think you have some growing up to do.

Most people sight a gun in from the steadiest position possible and get it tuned in to shoot tight groups. Then they practice from various shooting positions that they will be hunting from.

I recon you will kill more rabbits and ground squrrels if you do it that way.

first of all i never said i was insulted. second of all i didn't ask if you were impressed with my shooting. third i got the gun and had a few minutes to go out and shoot...and i could have either spent that time sighting in a gun or with my nieces and nephews. i chose the latter..sorry it doesn't meet with how you feel people should sight in a gun. and as for shooting tight groups. that target is about 4 inches across and i placed most of them within an inch of center. again shooting the gun for the first time...no scope, standing. i wasn't trying to brag or to show off. i was just happy to have a new gun. now go back to your range...i'll be out in the fields.

I think you did ask him if he was impressed.

Nice gun though. Is it tube fed? Aany plans on putting a scope on it? I had a 4x Bushnell Rimfire on my 22 and liked it. It was really easy to aquaire targets and wasnt so powerful that any little shake it was hard to focus. Did you buy it here in Lethbridge?

i never asked if anyone was impressed...i couldn't care less if they were or weren't. i did however share some photos of what i had been doing that day...that being said i did share the results and i guess that garners a response....but whatever...

yup it is tube fed. i am left handed and prefer a tube fed semi to a bolt action.....i am going back and forth on a scope. i have always just shot with open sights...and when i have used a rifle with a scope i have found it a bit awkward at first....but i imagine i will eventually put one on. it is just for plinking and fun. not looking to shoot paper all day and worry about how close i get them to each other haha.

as long as i am not shooting it into the wind it isn't too bad. still better than trying to work a bolt with the wrong hand...and i am too cheap/poor for a left handed model.

i actually haven't been hit yet...but i am sure i will. i have shot right handed guns my whole life......i have never shot a left hander....another reason i went with the bps for my scatter gun. have an O/U on the way.

Hahahaha, good question, I am also a lefty and shot many semi-autos, once an empty shell from an FN 7.62 got deflected off my right arm and ended up in my shirt.

The guys that saw me said it was quite funny seeing me dance to get the hot shell out while still trying to keep the muzzle of the gun pointed in a safe direction.

Well, I personally would be happy and impressed with those targets. 2" groups from a sporter, and a semi-auto at that, is darn fine shooting offhand.

Once you have had time to play with it and try out different brands of ammo, and break it in a bit, it will probably do even better!

You probably won't ever beat a match grade bolt rifle, but who cares? The gophers won't be in a position to do much complaining, that's for sure.

Are you going to scope it Clash?

Rippy, Rippy, Rippy..........why must you keep starting squabbles?

Sweet rig and nice shooting. My .22mag is a bolt action Marlin 25mn. I've owned it since 1994 and it is quite simply a wicked little gun! Enjoy and have fun with the kids.

The best .22 in the world is the one you have regardless of make and model.

There is a time and a place for full blown tourney rifles, especially when you are trying to screw a medal out of snipers like Cat. You won't beat guys like that with anything less.

There is also a time and a place to 'put paid' to charging tin cans, animal crackers and other targets as quickly as possible! Maybe it's just me, but the level of fun diminishes a bit as the seriousness and the competition level goes up. One of my funnest .22's is an old Ace single shot that is uglier than my butt to look at.

(Sorry for the mental image everyone...)

You are all hereby admonished to spend less time at work and chores and more time with your shooting!

Clash,

If you're concerned, a deflector of sorts, either homemade or otherwise, would direct the spent casing in a safer direction.
