Default Need advice on 3-gun scope

So I have been bitten by the 3-gun bug, and need to get a variable power scope for my rifle. What are some decent ideas?

So I have been looking at:

Burris MTAC 1-4
Vortex 3X Prism Scope
IOR Pitbull 4th Generation
Swaro Z6i
Anything I am missing that I should look at?

Ive read that the vortex razor 1 to 6 is the best value and one of the best as far as glass and durability. Highly proven but heavy

People also think very highly of the kahles but price goes up.

Nightforce has two 1-8. The atacr is expensive and the nxs is lower priced.

Not sure budget but Burris has a 1-8 and there is a 1-8 accupower

It all depends on your budget and what your looking for. When I shot tac ops I ran a cheap vortex 1-4 and did quite well with it though some extra power and a graduated reticle would have been quite handy on long range stages.
My shooting partner runs a burris 1-8 and is extremely happy with it.
Khales, bushnell, Leupold, vortex and primary arms all make 1-4, 1-6 or 1-8 scopes that work well for 3 gun
One thing I will mention is to get solid mounts. In 3gun you will be beating up on it pretty hard and having your scope lose zero halfway through a match is never fun.

You are going to want something with a BDC reticle for sure.
You will not be dialing turrets.

I prefer 1x for 95% of 3 gun shooting with both eyes open.

I like the vortex strike eagle 1-8 x 24 zeroed at 200 yards.
1x within 100 yards is fast.
8x with the BDC for longer range. We have shot out to 500 yards at 3 gun and the BDC is really nice (as long as you adjust your load to match it).

Higher budget I would probably go with a nightforce NX8 1-8x24 but I have no reason to switch from the strike eagle.

Low power variable scopes are probably the most useful optic for 3 gun. I’ve seen guys use red dot and 3 X magnifiers when the first start off but quickly realize the advantages of a 1-4 or 1-6 or more recently 1-8 X scopes. I ran a
1-6 Strike Eagle for a couple of years but now run a 1-8 Trijicon. The first focal plane has been useful when mirage on a hot day made it difficult to go all the way up to 8 power. Bullet drop remains the same regardless of magnification.

If the Trijicon had not been a available, I would have considered the higher end Bushnell, Leupold, and Primary Arms Platinum options as well. While some people may opt for higher top end magnification, your number one priority is probably going to be clear 1X power.

I’ve used my Accupower for Service Rifle matches as well and it has performed quite well. Whatever you decide, get a good BDC reticle, the confidence that comes with that is invaluable.
