Try some Hornady Interlocks. They're a good bullet at a good price. Hopefully they aren't too "flaky"???? I've had good luck with them in my rifles for game from coyotes to moose. Good luck, Eric

Nosler Partitions, Accubonds in 150 and 165 grain, Barnes TSX in 150 and 165 grain should be also good bullets to try.
Where did you aim on the doe and how much meat damage was there?

I shot the 150 TSX in mine. They'll penetrate several feet of soft tissue and bone.

the 168gr TSX out of my 30-06 cause major damage. They easily hit hard enough for moose and elk but Im starting to think they might be a tad too much for deer. If you only shoot a few rounds per year and want a bullet to kill everything, the TSX is good. If you plan on shooting paper most of the time and the odd deer here and there, there are better and cheaper choices out there.

I just use factory 180gr partitions in my 30-06 and it loves them...5 shots under MOA at 100 yrds.

I actually find the flaky thing is OK on deer. I shoot btips when velocity is down at 308 levels. Teh speer hotcore non-boattail bullets are much tougher than the boattails BTW.

Another vote for the 180 NP for an 06. That is what I used on my elk this fall.

Seen a few different 06 bullets recovered from game over the years, grand slams, nosler np recovered from moose were good. 180gr remington core locks actually held up quite well.
A friend uses 165 gr hornady's in his son's and daughters 30/06's and has had very good sucess on both deer and moose. His daughters rifle uses a reduced load to help with recoil.

As long as you have "antlers on the ground and hooves in the air" I wouldn't fret about what the bullet looked like when you recovered it.
"Shoot throughs" are also common, but you will have people tell you they like to have the bullet expend all its energy inside an animal.
If the bullet kills cleanly after it hits where it is aimed, so what?

180 grain nosler partitions. I shoot the Federal high energy factory loads. I have used them for years and have never been disappointed. This year I hit my Elk quartering towards me at 70 yards. I hit him high in the shoulder and the bullet went through the t-bones and stopped under the hide. Bullet retention was probably 90 % and the Elk folded like a cheap lawnchair.
