Default what country builds the best guns

who builds the best quality guns,
the US companies farm most of their work out over seas it seams, due to cheaper labour costs,
alot of guns are built in turkey, or Italy, sweeden, Japan, china, thiland,Belgium, germany, and then brought over and sold through american companies
for example years ago I bought a BLR it was made in Belgium, it was a well built solid gun acurate as well for a lever gun, I sold that gun and then a few years later I got this brain fart that i needed another one, so i bought another BLR, that gun was made in Japan and was nothing but junk ,
I now own 3 pedersoli's made in Italy and they as well built and stronger then what the american gun of the same model are,

I'd go with Canada.
Any of our custom builders can compete on the world stage!

I like the Italians for production shotguns, but I'm with Dick when it comes to THE best guns - Canada's custom guys can getrdun!

It really depends for what, everywhere has their junk and their good stuff. My vote is no vote, anywhere can be good.

Default gun or rifle

Shotguns I would look at Italy and Belgium.
Rifles Germany, Belgium, Sweden and Finland but like it was already mentioned a lot of the quality is ordered in specifications and tolerances.
A high end German company lost the Weatherby contract many years ago due to poor quaility control think Howa (Japan) picked it up and has been doing very consistent work since that time.
I believe at one time Howa also made the Nosler Custom rifles.

You can order tires made by Michelin to your specs, they will be tires but not Michelins. I suspect firearms are the same for the parent company ordering tells the manufacturer what tolerances they will accept.
A Steyr ordered by another company may not be a Steyr in quality although made by them.

I am also a fan of Czeck rifles and have owned BRNO for many years, some shooters from that country tell me the quality I have grown to expect is no longer guaranteed in modern production firearms. Like everything else a lot of it is now outsourced to Turkey etc.

Czech, Serbia, Russia, Romania? are these not included? All can build very decent guns with good prices....

but I go with Finland and Czech.

And what made you thought the japan-made BLR was a junk? I owned a couple of Weatherbys that were built in japan. Both are very well engineered and machined fine, of course very accurate, but a bit less of smell of American culture (it's like I'd prefer to ride a Harley made by a big drunk guy with a tattoo on his shoulder, not in Japan though they might be more reliable).

you probably have never shot a Norinco made military version SKS (not the cheapo civilian version), the best tactical 7.62x39 built ever. I owned one and put at least 2000 through the pipe, it jammed only a couple of times and only because of the poor surplus ammo. I could easily shot a tin can with it at 50 yards without using a scope. They definitely can do much better things than those cheap walmart stuff...

Tin can at 50 yds? I once hit an elusive boulder at 200 yds! SKS iron sights too. Love that piece. BTW What's made in Thailand?

im gonna go out on a limb and say that norinco has not and will never produce the best of anything let alone tactical.

For custom rifles you can't beat the innovators in North america. For mass production rifles it is hard to beat Finnland. Germany or Belgium at one time would have been my other picks.

For custom rifles,I also agree that some of our own Canadian gunbuilders can hold their own with any other country. For mass produced centerfire rifles,I like American Cooper or Finnish Sako. For rimfire guns,I like either German Anschutz or American Cooper. For shotguns,German Kreighoff is as good as it gets, but for reasonable priced guns,I like the Japanese made Citoris.

Howa has always made the Vanguards, they were never made in Germany. The Mark Vs were previously made in the USA by Pacific, then in Germany by Sauer, then in Japan by Howa ,but they have been made in the USA for around 15 years now.Weatherby moved production to Howa from Sauer to cut costs, not because of quality issues.

I believe the model 70 is still made out of the military plant in Kentucky.
Not sure if is still functional but also heard Weatherby stil produces in California somewhere.

Elkhunter, we got different versions of the same story then for I was told Sauer lost the contract due to quality issues not production costs which have always been higher in Germany.

The New Model 70 is supposedly being built in the USA,and Atek still builds the Mark V in the USA.Weatherby hasn't built their own rifles in many years.

Since your information still claims that Howa is building the Mark V,which is obviously not true, your information is obviously flawed,so I will go with my own sources.

Try Columbia S.C. as of 2008.

Atek makes the Mark V barreled actions in Brainerd MN.
Howa manufactures the Vanguard barreled actions in Japan.

Because you omitted Belgium and that is where the finest mass produced firearms come from.

Finland... Sako Tikka Sauer... I probably dont know all of em but those 3 already crush competition in quality...

I would love to include Italy for Shotguns... Beretta Benelli there is more better grades.. such as Perazzi... but the first 2 are the most common high quality grade shotguns used by Waterfowlers...
