Default Mechanical help with 02 Trailblazer

Hi there guys and girls i have a 02 Chevy Trailblazers and have had a ticking noise start in the front passenger side of the truck. Today it went from that to a loud grinding noise from the front of the truck. I think it may be the drive shaft from the front diff but am not sure just wondering if anyone can help me out with some advise as to what you may think that it is.

Sounds like you need a new cv joint but hard to say with out seeing it.

pretty hard to tell from your explanation.
Wheel bearing maybe? I'm not to sure if the trailblazer has a solid front diff?
If not maybe a cv shaft?

Id say Wheel bearing, chev got rid of the solid front diff in the late 80's. Not to familier with the trailblazer, 4X4 or AWD? Manual or Auto locking hubs? Is your 4X4 disengaging when you put it in 2x4? Some Electric t- case shift modules tend to short out and stay engaged. Hard to tell without a better discription.

I would quickly run it into a small mechanic shop and ask for a test drive. I would say that you have a dried-up u-joint on your drive shaft. Let the mechanic have a quick listen, and ask for a quote, and that you have to "think about it" before doing it. This kind of swap is very easy. The only trick is that before you torque on a wrench to loosen the nuts, heat them first with a heat gun. There is thread-locker on them that will soften with heat. Otherwise you will tear the bolts in half and you will really be screwed. 30 min job.
Lots of times a sound that you hear and think is coming from a certain location while in the cab, is distorted and is coming from an entirely separate place. Thats why dealerships really don't look into interior sounds and chase them to hard.

could be a stone between your caliper and rotor. At the 'grinding' stage, anything affected that was lubricated, would have dumped it's lubricant, so a visual inspection of that occurance could help.
